Samantha Cameron's $1,190 Dress Raises Eyebrows In England (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 10/07/10 09:28 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:55 PM ET

Samantha Cameron, wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron, has been out in England at the at the Conservative Party Conference this week, giving us a glimpse of her post-pregnancy style.

On Wednesday, her outfit garnered a lot of UK media attention -- the Paul Smith Autumn 2010 dress cost $1,190, out of the ordinary for Sam Cam who reportedly likes to shop lower priced labels. The Guardian wrote, "It may only be a frock, but none of these choices are made without considering how it will look, -- and not just in the aesthetic sense -- so you wonder what Mrs. Cameron and her advisers must have been thinking."

However, the Daily Mail didn't see such a problem, reporting, "The stylish ensemble, from the designer's Autumn 2010 range, complemented her figure which seemed to be in remarkable shape after the birth of her daughter Florence in August."

Samantha was also spotted on Tuesday at the train station in a blouse, dark wash jeans, black flats and a camel-colored coat.

What do you think?

Quick Poll

It's a flattering dress. Her figure has bounced back quickly. Who cares how much it costs if you aren't paying for it?

Other wives of leaders of state routinely wear dresses that cost upwards of $10,000. Why the hubub about a $1200 dress? Yes a lot of money for us averge and below average folk, but come on, what does Mrs. Sarkozy spend every second on clothes and our own Michelle, etc. etc.

Side note, I deplore cutie pie press induced names like "Sam Cam"..my gosh...look what Brangelina hath rought. Bleck and a pox on cutie names.

I understand she is from a wealthy family. So if it's her money, it's none of anyones business.

My only question would be, "Can she afford it?" If so, good for her and what's the problem? Now, personally, I have never spent more than 90 bucks on a dress, but again, that is what I can afford.

A higher double-standard.

And I'm sure her husband's suit cost at least as much.

A $1,000 dress is not expensive for the spouse of a world leader.

I'm having a hard time dealing with an article of clothing that costs over $1,000. I guess if you've got the money...

The real crime is it don't look like a $1,190 dress. If you are going to whoop it up pick something flattering and make sure your shoes actually fit so they don't slop around on your feet when you walk.

She looks fabulous.

How silly. She comes from an extremely wealthy family, she's loaded and £800 for an outfit for an important event really isn't that much money.
01:24 AM on 10/08/2010
I know! "Super expensive" it's not.
08:31 AM on 10/08/2010
I agree, but the dress is not beautiful. So why waste good money on something so awful.
08:36 PM on 10/07/2010
I don't think it's the most attractive dress on her, but $1200 is not a huge sum. More than I would pay for a dress, but I'm not married to the Prime Minister. If she and her husband paid for it, why is it anyone else's business?

My favorite part of this much-ado-about-nothing over the dress will occur, however, if she has the temerity to wear it again.

I don't get it. Do the taxpayers give them a clothing allowance? I doubt it. I'm sure her husband earns a paycheck for being PM. If they can afford it she should be able to wear what she wants.
