8 Fantastic Airport Dining Options For Travelers (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 10/08/10 04:43 PM ET   Updated: 09/16/11 04:29 PM ET

Airports, as a general rule, are a pretty annoying place to be. Besides the crowds, the noise, the smell, there never seems to be anything to eat that isn't soggy and deep-fried.

Thankfully, the tides are turning and restaurateurs from Todd English to Wolfgang Puck are putting their higher-class establishments in terminals around the country.

A branch of sophisticated wine bars are even popping up in airports from Dulles to Seattle-Tacoma.

I am an aberration. I've enjoyed travel of all sorts, from when I could afford a Greyhound Bus ticket to when I first flew an airliner. I still enjoy travel, including airports. There is a higher hassle factor now, and it could be annoying if one allows it to get under the skin. (I don't worry about the scanners that look beneath the clothing.)

Part of the fun is outwitting the hasslers. Carry ID in a transparent tag around the neck. Prepack pocket items in the carry-on so there is no fuss getting them out of and back into pockets. Wear shoes easy to slip off and on, but still form-fitting enough to run in if necessary.

And don't forget to watch the people. Airports are prime people-watching sites.

And also watch for suspicious packages and unattended luggage...

I got one of those hot dogs in Chicago last week,it wasn't all that Chicago-authentic,I grew up there. The atlanta airport sucks, sorry ,but it does.Back in Portland (PDX),the food and everhing else cost the same as it does downtown.Oregon is the Vahalla of micro-brews and pub grub and it all starts as soon as you get off the plane.

This is a huge fail...

Wolfgang Puck Express: Very bad chain food
Legal Seafood: again a over priced chain
Buena Vista Cafe, SFO famous for Irish coffee in the city, but this at SFO is just all bad airport food

Dont know the rest, but must be bad if the writer thought these were fantastic.

I know it's airport food, but it does get better then this.

Agree on Wolfgang, legal seafood is as good as you can expect for an airport (but slightly overpriced). But the wine place in Newark is very good - light food and pretty good wine at reasonable prices.

Best part is the atmosphere takes you away from the airport (just don't miss your flight!)

Sorry. "Legal Seafood" should be illegal- overpriced frozen seafood at cramped tables.
