Brett Favre Investigation Could Result In Suspension

Brett Favre Investigation

OAKLAND, Calif. — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says once the league completes its investigation of allegations Brett Favre sent racy messages and lewd photos to a Jets game hostess in 2008, it will "make a determination" if the Vikings quarterback should be punished.

The league is looking into the matter under its personal conduct policy.

"We are going through that and we are making sure we understand all the facts," Goodell said at halftime of the Chargers-Raiders game.

Goodell added once the investigation is complete, "we'll make a determination from there."

Should Favre be found to have violated the NFL's conduct policy, he could be fined or suspended.

Deadspin posted a story Thursday which included several voicemails allegedly sent by Favre to Jenn Sterger, who worked for the Jets at the time. The voicemails include a man asking to meet with Sterger, who now is a TV personality for the Versus network. The website posted a video that contained the voicemails and several graphic pictures – said to be Favre – that were allegedly sent to Sterger's cell phone.

The website later reported that Favre also pursued two female massage therapists who worked part time for the team, according to one of the women. Deadspin did not identify the women, but a Jets spokesman said the team was giving contact information for the two women to the league.

Sterger's manager, Phil Reese, has said his client "did not provide Deadspin with any information." And a Deadspin editor said it paid a third party for the material and acknowledged it's possible the man who sent the voicemails and photos may not be Favre.

Favre refused to comment on the stories earlier in the week. Minnesota is at the Jets on Monday night.

Vikings coach Brad Childress said he talked with Favre about the NFL investigation and that the Deadspin reports have not been a distraction for the team .

"We just talk about what's out there and look it right in the eye and deal with it to the extent we can," Childress said on Saturday. "It doesn't affect anybody else in this locker room, except Brett Favre."

Favre is employing the Mark McGwire defense. I guess we'll see if it works out better for him.

If he is found guilty, he should be kicked out of the NFL. Thats it. He should set a proper example. Ben R. and if guilty Brett F. are giving the league a bad name...

A suspension would be a hell of a way to end his record consecutive start streak.

I tip my hat to the inventor of the cell phone camera, who must have known that people were just chomping at the bit to take photos of their private parts and post them either on-line, on Facebook, etc, or just to send them to other folks on Twitter. I mean, how brilliant was that inventor! How dopey are these famous and not-so-famous folks.?

I always laugh at stories like this...thinking how many times does this thing work for guys?
I guess 1-100 is worth the risk to some.

"Interesting" how this story comes out right before the game in NY tonight. This woman knows exactly what she's doing, and I don't fall for the fake "third party" garbage. Whether Favre is guilty or not, this below average looking woman with really bad implants has posed for Playboy. That shows a failure on her parents part for raising her poorly and a desperation for attention on her part, and she'll cheapen herself at any cost to get it.
02:05 PM on 10/11/2010
Maybe Favre's parents didn't raise him right! Amazing how you defend him, even if he is guilty, and attack her!

caymen, of course she raises it now. We live in a country where fame is the goal, fame for ANY reason. If the Kardashian girls were my kids, they wouldn't be making sex tapes and creating a 'brand', but our country (heck, the world) eats this nonsense up. So glad that I fought for women's rights so that these girls can engage in sexting and call themselves 'equal'. LOL.

Wayne Gretzky once said that when he first became 'famous' in the NHL, he was advised by older folks to never put himself in a compromising position. That included NEVER riding in an elevator alone with any female he was not married to, engaged to, dating, or a relative of. Seems that Mr. Gretzky understood the system of fame at any cost.

I'm sorry but if someone made these kind of accusations about me and I was innocent I would have made a statement blasting those people right out of the water. No comment is pretty telling if you ask me. I know a lot of ball players have come out with bold face lies ( Barry Bonds & Mark McGuire ) when accused of wrong doing but to say I have my hands full with the Jets is pretty weak. I'd be telling everyone who would listen of my innocence. If this goes down like I think it will , it will be a sad sad day in a great career.

I agree. I live in Wisconsin and was a fan for years until all this retirement drama and then after he went to the Vikings ... well, you have to live in Wisconsin to understand the rivalry and many of us felt completely betrayed. He has messed around before and was caught ... you would think these guys would learn the first time ... LOL. Not saying he's guilty but it sure doesn't look like it's leaning in his favor. There are going to be some good parodies of Brett's winky on YouTube! Can you imagine??? Once it's out there, it is out there forever ... LOL

Don't any of these pro athletes know about Hallmark? Is is absolutely imperative for them to share Kodak moments of their Johnsons? What romantics!

Funny, unconfirmed by supposed victims and leak by a third party source tabloid style news item pops up as the Vikings play on Monday night? Do you think someone wants Favre gone or do they just don't like the odds on Monday? All this pressure and rumors can effect the playing of the quartback. Guess vikings will loose tonight. Good for me because I'm a Bears fan.

no someone is protecting. They have been sitting on the story for over a year. It is getting harder for the NFL to protect now that some of the hard evidence is out.

Favre is a grown man and I really don't care what he does off the field with his personal love life. He does need to remember that he is living in the spotlight and needs to be careful. Being protected from a "third party" who had nothing to do with Favre or the woman who doesn't want to comment on the story. It just seems to me the whole story is to bad mouth Favre as he plays against his former team on national tv.

we're going to 'loose' tonight? Hmmmmm....... i'd rather loose than lose I guess

Wow, a suspension. Probably the 4 game standard and after he appeals it will be applied to next season and he can serve it riding his tractor while he's retired and the NFL players are locked out.

These are really confusing times....
I understand that Farve's behavior -- if the allegations are true -- would be dehumanizing and offensive.
What confuses my is that a simple web search of Sterger reveals a woman clearly trading on her looks and not merely trading on her looks but directly and sans clothing. Not merely sans clothing but sans clothing in highly sexualized situations and -- with some small clothing in place -- in physical contact with other women that suggests something beyond the picture taking. I'm am NOT saying anything like "she asked for it..." but is she saying, "Please think of me in a sexual context and without my clothes on..." and then, when someone does....saying "NO!"...
As I said at the beginning, these are confusing time and I'm confused....a fact that I'm sure many of you will confirm.

Why isn't he up on felony charges like Alvin Greene in SC.
10:35 AM on 10/11/2010
Well, generally you start with an investigation to see if Favre is even possibly guilty. It's all part of the lead up to that "innocent until proven guilty" thingie.

Brett Farve is a football player. One of the things that football players are football players for is to pick up girls. If the girl didn't report the messages, who did and why the hell do they care? I'm not sure there's even a story here.

By the way, why the hell is Brett Farve so desired by the NFL. he hasn't done a thing since the 90's. This is 2010. I can't find a job based on my accomplishments from three years ago, let along 13 years ago.

He threw for 4200 yards and 33 TDs last year.

I get it...you're trying to throw out some snark, but at least try to snark from a factual position. As is, you just look like any run-of-the-mill dope.

A friend told me yesterday that he no longer liked Favre because of his "non-Christian behavior". So I asked him if he liked him when he only worked on the Sabath, coveted other (salaries), and worshiped the NFL more than God.
