Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo made its first solo glide flight on Sunday in the Mojave Desert in California, marking a step forward in the company's plans to offer trips to outer space for tourists.

Virgin claims to have sold over 700 seats so far, at a mere $200,000 each.

The flight was captured on video along with a reaction from Sir Richard Branson.

This is an amazing achievement by Virgin Galactic and the manufacturers of the spaceship, Scaled Composites. Next step is to light the rocket up for a few seconds of powered flight. Then come the powered flights up to full altitude (i.e. to space). Step by step the dream is being realised. I can't afford to be in the first batch of flights, but definitely hope to go some day. In the meantime I've compiled a list of everyone who is known to have bought a ticket:

$200,000. Gotta start saving some money soon. Of course those who continue to get their tax cuts for the rich can go at least once a year, doncha think? ;0)
