I think Perryville, KY and Shiloh are the 2 most pristine. Gettysburg and Antietam most moving.
Fort Sumter OK, but nothing like it looked like in Civil War. Chickamauga awesome w/ tour
CD, but fairly complicated. Yorktown interesting, you can envision what happened there.
.Tippecanoe in good shape , and key in 1812.

I am Texan, many generations before me were Texans. I hold the Alamo in great reverance, David Crocket is my GGGGG Uncle. That being said, don't mislead people about the Alamo. The only thing left from the old mission/fort is the chapel, which was only used as a cannon mount. John Wayne might have had his last stand there, but Davy didn't and there is little historical things there to see. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place to visit, but don't plan a day there. An hour will do it and then head across the street, go down the steps and enjoy the Riverwalk, you'll find that much more enjoyable and time consuming.

How could they omit the oldest and largest Civil War battlefield park? Veterans of both sides worked to make it into a park. As a training ground for the Spanish-American War, more soldiers died there in training than in action during the whole of that war. Close by is the national cemetery where the first 7 winners of the Medal of Honor are buried.

It might help if you were to actually say where this place is?

The Battle of The Plains of Abraham will be up shortly.

How this didn't make the list is beyond me. It was one of the most important Battles of North America.

The most chilling moment of my young life was to walk Omaha Beach at Normandy. I think my blood ran cold for months afterwards. I could, still, break into tears thinking about it. The sound of surf pounding on any beach brings it all back in an instant.

The Alamo is, now, little more than a gift shop run by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

Ft Sumter is a monument to tre.ason; it should be bulldozed flat.

Ft Sumpter is important in that it reminds us why some wars must be fought.

The very cool thing about Harpers Ferry is that the town it self is a absolute treasure ... very charming indeed...Lots to do there

My great great Grandmother painted a landscape of Harper's Ferry in 1849. Not great art but priceless.

If you wanted to expand your interest beyond the USA, you can always visit the Plains of Abraham outside of Old Quebec.

Typical east coast bias on where to go. What about Shiloh, Stones River, Vicksburg, etc.?

Missing is Stony Creek battlefield park, Canada where a major battle was fought in the war of 1812. ...
(The Americans lost, so perhaps that is why they like to forget that it happened.)

I have to submit a vote for Battle of Tippecanoe Battlefield in Battle Ground, Indiana - slightly northeast of Purdue University. Small and off the beaten track of most historic battle sites, it still holds a significant importance to America's westward movement. On November 11, 1811, General William Henry Harrison's forces were engaged at dawn by a force of Tecumsah's followers led by Tecumseh's brother, The Prophet. This battle ended badly for the Native Americans, in effect dissolving Tecumseh's Confederacy and further halting protests toward American expansion into the Midwest. The battlefield later served as a rest stop along the Trail of Death in which the Potawatomi were removed from northern Indiana to Kansas leaving many children and elders dead along the way. The battlefield is listed on the National Register for both events.

Walking through the battlefield gates, one feels an instant deep reverence for those who fought and died here. The park is beautiful, quiet and well-maintained.
