Governments that rule by fear have always tried to control information.

I am not an advocate of armed invasion. At the same time, Iran is without question a rogue nation. The international community has got to develop more intestinal fortitude. A South African style embargo needs to take place. And Iran needs to have visa denied for foreign travel for all of it's citizenry. Including diplomats and their President. Including travel to the U.N.

Still think we need to be the world's cop? Why not let some other country step up for once?

I guess maybe I didn't put the words INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY in large enough typeface. And\or you don't recall the INTERNATIONAL effort against South Africa.

"Iran is without question a rogue nation."

First of all governments are rouge not nations.

Second almost all governments specially western governments are rouge since people in these countries have less and less influence over their destiny.

When Bank CEOs who created the financial mess in US are rewarded with bonuses, you think US government is not rouge?

US is run by less than 1000 elites, regardless of who is in WH.

I think we have to make our own house in order before we intervene in other nations' internal affairs.

Oh, I regret the flooding, since I failed to include this initially.

From Merriam Webster Online--Rogue---: of or being a nation whose leaders defy international law or norms of international behavior

This is no surprise. Iran's political leadership, if that's what you call it, is rotten and evil to the core. Too bad for this innocent young lady.

According to Press TV, she has told the intelligence police tipped by a family member that she was a journalist. When they checked her passport, it was clear that he has connection with terrorist organization and exile Iranians in Germany. Also she was entered the country as tourists and has promised not to engage in propaganda war against Iran. When you visit Iran as tourists you follow a tourist tour progarm. Nobody from government actually check you to see if you act as tourist but in her case she definitely entered Iran to engage in propaganda war with Iran.

If you want to go Iran as journalist, you have to go trough proper channel and certainly establishing connection with exile Iranians will not help you.

I do not think they will keep a German citizen for a long time. Germany's trade with Iran has showed huge increase despite the sanctions and Iran will not jeopardize this relationship for a spy.

I think she went into the country the way she did to get the story, because she knew the government would not give her free access to the family.

Iran is an outlaw country where the lawlessness and the deprivation of human rights is institutionalized and codified.

They should be shunned.

No, the US should establish full diplomatic and commercial relations with Iran. Then, restore some sanity to our policy in the greater Middle East- one of peaceful commercial relations. Everybody would benefit.

Your response to me hasn't been posted yet. I hope it is because I do want to respond. And I appreciate your discussing this in a civil manner! So many do not! But I find myself not so much disagreeing with you but adding that Iran too is responsible for opening up dialog with the West. And it is my opinion... emphasis on "my" again... that Iran is not serious about opening up relations with the West. My opinion is based on extensive reading of virtually every article on HP about Iran... conversations with Iranians... Iranian social websites... Iranian news websites (both English and Farsi because I have my own Farsi translator... :-). I also don't support commercial relations with Iran AT THIS TIME. For the first time, the most recent sanctions (against the IRCG) are starting to produce some results. Most Iranians support those particular sanctions and encourage more. Sanctions which effect the people are more difficult to assess and I won't get into that in this discussion.

Completely agree.

Instead of the useless war drum banging diplomatic and commercial relations should be increased. No American has any beef with an Iranian and no Iranian has any beef with an American. The propaganda is simply done for corporate profits to make Americans ready to agree to any aggression against Iran.

Yeah, that's so apropos, since Iranian troops shot the reporter through the head at point blank range.

Reporters that report on repressive regimes should get medals. Too many of these regimes get away with murder, literally, because it is too dangerous to report the truth. Instead countries like Israel get all the gutless journalists to report on the ME situation because they know they are safe. We end up with disproportionate reporting and a false sense that Israel is the most oppressive rouge state in the world. You might not like Israel but it is a disgrace that the most oppressed people in the world (not the Palestinians) are being forgotten and ignored.

If you want to talk about getting away with murder because no one will report it, you need to look at the American press.
