Sarah Palin Doubles Down On 'Death Panels'

Sarah Palin

Mother Jones:

Sarah Palin is standing by her "death panels."

In an interview taped last week for Newsmax.com, a conservative website, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate said that she had been right in 2009 to accuse President Barack Obama of trying to set up "death panels" with his health care overhaul. But the legislation, according to PolitiFact.com, did no such thing. In fact, when Palin first made this charge, PolitiFact called it a "pants on fire" lie.

SARAH PALIN'S OWN DEATH PANELS

If you want the truth about how the unconscionable Sarah Palin could ever dream
up the notion of "death panels," read the link below [provided originally by kimbanyc].
This is the sad tale of 250 deaths which occurred in Alaska as a result of poor health
coverage authorized during Palin's Reign of Error as Governor.

As it is now, faceless bureaucrates in insurance companies operate death panels when they decide what treatments they will not fund or decide to terminate coverage. Dollars determine what care people get. Those who are without or have less get very little care. There is a huge profit to be made from the misfortune of others. Market forces do not work when health care pricing is established.

It is hard for me to believe that anyone can take Palin seriously. Let's hope upon hope that the Congress remains in Democratic hands and that the President and Congress starts the full court press on the Republican opposition. Sahrah Palin and the rest of the "Tea Baggers" need to be put out of business and sent back to where they came from.

Every time I hear these ridiculous "Death Panel" claims I'm reminded that my Mother spent the last few years of her life, like thousands of other Americans and millions worldwide, of Chronic Hemodialysis Treatment.
This is what you do when your Kidneys no longer function and you are not placed on the transplant list. 4 hrs a day, 3 days a week, technicians in lab coats would remove all her blood and filter it back in to her body.
You see, there's not enough Kidneys to go around and they need to go to people who have a better chance of making it. So if you're older, or have a history of alcoholism or drug use, or if you're morbidly obese, or if you have other medical issues, such as Heart disease or Cancer you won't even be considered for a transplant. I knew a woman, very attractive in her early 30's that had surgery and a medical mistake was made and she was given the wrong type of blood transfusion. She made it out of the hospital about a year later and spent the remaining years of her life (not many) on dialysis because she wasn't a candidate. I also had a coworker in his 30's who was on the list for his 3rd kidney (each only last about 10 years).

So, before she wants to make Death Panels an issue, she may want to consider that real people already face that.

I started, several years ago, the practice of having different beneficiaries for each IRA deposit at my credit union, so several friends and family could have immediate access to the funds, and I could discuss my wishes as to how they should use the funds . . . keeping whatever is left over for their own inheritance. Now two of my sisters are in Alzheimer's care homes, neither recognizes family and friends (even those who visit daily or weekly), and one of them believes she has been kidnapped and is being held hostage -- telling her daughter NOT to pay the ransom. All of us on Medicare ought to be grateful that our doctor can help us get our final care choices on paper and letting the other relatives know what we wanted. PCP's don't get paid nearly enough in the pay for service method that grants huge fees to specialists, but not that much to the men and women who know us best.

Death panels do exist, they are called health insurance providers. I had dinner last night with an old friend who is out of work and has no insurance. He has diabetes and a mild form of lukemia. He said if things go badly, he will just tell them, don't try to fix me, just make me comfortable and let me die. He is 60 years old. In any other modern, industrialized country this would not be a problem. Here in the United States, he could die from a lack of affordable health care. Yes Saraha there are death panels, they are called "insurance companies".

The reason Palin doubled down on the death panel myth is because it works. A large majority of senior citizens still believe that death panels are part of healthcare reform. If children would talk with their elderly parents and grandparents to reassure them that this idea is total nonsense, their fears might be alleviated. But, we shelve our elderly citizens, we don't talk with them.

I have to show my father how to turn off his TV and you want me to talk politics with him? I have to read his mail so that he doesn't throw away government checks. He asked me why he still gets a statement from a credit card he no longer used. He had a $450 credit balance and has no idea why. These kind of people are easy to fire up with sound bites. The good news is, he probably will forget to vote.

At $500 Invite Only Event in Vancouver, Governor Palin Says "When I Do Run Again I Will be More Rogue"

By Ian Lazaran

Here's what she said according to the Globe and Mail at the $500 invite-only event tonight in Vancouver:
In a speech that seemed crafted for Tea Party followers more than curious Canadians, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin used an invitation to address an upscale book club audience here to preach the virtues of free enterprise and praise the power of tax cuts to cure all economic woes.

st of the evening, however, was spent denouncing the “free-spending ways,” of U.S. President Barack Obama. She took particular aim at the Democratic president’s health-care reform measures and tax increases, both of which she said are job killers.

“I call myself a common sense conservative,” Ms. Palin told the crowd, a mix of Vancouver’s old establishment and new elite and a group that crossed political party lines.

She referred to the current platform of President Obama as the “failed policies of a leftist politician.”

“(His government) has super-sized an already too big government,” Ms. Palin said. “Enough is enough. Also rising up is what I call the Mama Grizzlies, mothers like myself who see the actions of this government as robbing our children’s futures.

Okay, raised who's taxes? Oh that's right SP you are a multi millionaire now, so your taxes may have gone up. Ummm I am pretty sure that I just read that there are 350,000 less government employees now then when Obama took office, that in my book is not even increasing the size of government let alone "super sizing" it. Common sense is the one thing I would never accuse SP as having, and she knows that she would soil herself and run screaming like a little girl if she ever ran across a real momma grizzly. The woman is as phony as a $3 bill.
