HUFFPOST ARTS' HAIKU REVEWS: Critic Peter Frank Debuts With Quick Takes Of LA Art Shows

HuffPost Arts' Haiku Reviews are a new weekly feature where invited critics will be able to give their impression of exhibitions or performances in short form. Think of them as a tweetable art review. Some will be in the traditional Haiku form of 5x7x5 syllables, others might be a sonnet or a string of words together. This week, Critic Peter Frank reviews some Los Angeles Art shows, next week, the world! Please chime in in the comments section. Is there a show or a performance you've seen that you think people should know about? Write a Haiku with a link and shine a light on something you think is noteworthy too.

Haiku Review: Ewerdt Hilgemann makes big stainless steel boxes, then subjects them to various stresses – right up to explosions – that torque the objects into poignant distortions. Sometimes they take on the air of overused furniture, other times they assume almost animate positions. Who knew such a minimalist meme could be so touching?

Installation at Samuel Freeman, 2010.

(Samuel Freeman, Bergamot Station B7, S. Monica 90404. Thru Oct. 16.)
