California NOW President Calls Whitman 'Political Whore'

Meg Whitman Now Political Whore

The National Organization for Women seems to have changed their tack on hate speech against women Thursday, as the president of the California chapter called California GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman a "political whore" after having earlier called for Jerry Brown, her Democratic opponent, to fire any staffer who used the word.

California NOW President Patty Bellasalma told Talking Points Memo in an interview Thursday that "Meg Whitman could be described as 'a political whore.' Yes, that's an accurate statement."

TPM had called Bellasalma to follow up on a recent Daily Caller story that quoted her as seemingly justifying the incident last week in which a tape was released revealing a Brown staffer being unknowingly recorded referring to Whitman as a "whore" while discussing political strategy.

NOW took heat last week for choosing to endorse Jerry Brown over Meg Whitman even in the face of evidence that someone in his campaign had used the slur without any audible condemnation from Brown.

The women's group followed up Wednesday with a statement denouncing the Brown campaign's use of the word and calling on him to fire any future staffer who was heard using such language, but commending his subsequent apology and reaffirming their support for his candidacy.

Yes, with the amount of her own money she spent on her campaign. I predicted Jerry Brown would win 6 months ago. He's a centrist who works well with both parties...

NOW President Patty Bellasalma is guilty of hate speech and totally unprofessional. Sad when a "womens" organization prostitutes itself on the political alter and attacks other women...

A person who comes in to a state with the sole purpose of "buying" a government office just smacks of Classism...Ms. Whitman, you decide to just throw money around California with worthless ads to buy the governorship. This state is hurting, the people of California are hurting, high unemployment...oh,about some of the some jobs 40% of the Ebay jobs that you sent overseas, high foreclosures..we are yet to hear from you exactly what your plans are for California. I personally do not trust a person who comes into a race with deep pockets to just try to "buy" our votes...Do you Ms. Whitman wonder why throwing $150million into worthless ads is not working on the people in this state? Two things, first many millionaires/billionaires have tried before you doing the same thing...didn't work for them either. Here is another thought...why is it we see or hear nothing about Ms. Whitman's various charities...especially in these hard economic times. Sorry, Ms. Whitman...you are not passing the "smell" test to the citizens of California...do not believe you care about this state or its people.

Meg Whitman: No plans to give away wealth!

It's unclear exactly how much Whitman and her husband have given to charity over the years. She has refused to disclose her tax returns but has said she has copies dating back 25 years.

You seem to miss the fact that when Whitman was at Ebay she was doing what was best for Ebay.

No, I didn't miss the point. As a politician, she will continue to do what is best for corporations, not the country.

Whitman did not care enough about the State of California or our country to even bother vote in state-wide or national elections for 23 years. She proudly shipped thousands of jobs overseas during her time as a corporate CEO and put thousands of Californians out of work. Her running around the state campaigning now in a big green "Jobs" bus is a joke. I would think that most voters on Nov 2 will not care about what she was called in a private conversation.

Using the language they just condemned?

I wish we could shut up about this. What's done is done. The people most upset about this were probably going to vote for Meg Whitman anyway. True, that word should not be used to describe a woman, but this was about someone who sold our her principles to get an endorsement.
Enough already.

Would "John" be more appropriate to be used in it's context of the statement?
