Meredith Vieira says she doesn't know what she'll do when her "Today" show contract expires next year, but she says she is "not afraid" to leave the NBC morning show.
"I'll know when it's time to go, and I'm not afraid to go," Vieira told Ladies' Home Journal of the "Today" show. "If I were to leave at the end of next year because it's time for me, I wouldn't jump into another show. I would look forward to not working, to traveling with [husband] Richard and carving out time for us. You're always doing something, if you are curious. It doesn't have to be a 9-to-5 job."
Vieira extended her contract earlier this year for one more year.
Recent reports have speculated that Katie Couric, whose CBS News contract also expires next year, could return to the "Today" show if Vieira leaves. Page Six posed this possibility last month:
Katie Couric might end up back on the "Today" show when her "CBS Evening News" contract expires at the end of May. A spot will be open because Meredith Vieira is expected to leave "Today" to spend more time with her family.
