SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Hollywood moguls Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen are throwing a fundraiser for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown.

Brown spokesman Sterling Clifford says the $5,000-a-head reception will be Thursday at the Soho House in West Hollywood. Donors who give or raise $25,000, just below the maximum contribution, will attend a private reception.

Katzenberg, Spielberg and Geffen, the founders of the DreamWorks movie studio, have long supported Democratic candidates. They have thrown fundraisers for President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton.

Other co-chairs of the event include Hollywood celebrities J.J. Abrams, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, George Lucas and Rob Reiner.

The fundraiser comes a day before Clinton is scheduled to appear with Brown at a Los Angeles rally.

can you feel a momentum building? I have a feeling Whitman underestimated Jerry Brown and the people who have his back. You cant buy TV ads when all the TV add time is sold.
Unless she wants to ride down the streets on a float throwing hundred dollar bills and yelling "This State needs an enema !*" she may be out of options ....VOTE! Nov 2 !

Is this a surprise? These guys are the Wall Street thieves of the west coast. They are buying loopholes and protection from the king of political hackery.

Wall Street thieves? Please provide links.

Most of us in CA know these 3 are the most powerful players in the movie/entertainment business, who made their money the old-fashioned, capitalistic way - they earned it.

Well technically they gambled on a risk and won. And that is free enterprise, not thievery
and Ragnar, Meg ,of all people, should just stay away from the subject of Wall Street thieves .

The "old fashioned way" is to earn the money, not steal it. Is this too hard to understand, or was ethics a "verboten" subject in your net-degree finals?

We've seen Brown in state government before and we have confidence in him now. It's Whitman who is kidding us.

what are you talking about? I mean really. AS is the most green Gov we have ever had. People from around the world have gone to see him in how to bring green tech and regulations and goals to their countries. He is liberal on gay rights. whats your beef? no D on the end of his name? CA will drown in spending and runaway budgets with Brown. just watch.

I disagree with your statements about Brown, but I do agree with you about Schwarzenegger.
Schwarzenegger made an attempt early on to see if he could steer the state to the right, which proved disastrous for him. But since then, I think he's done the best job anyone could do given the lousy economic situation California is in.
And, as you said, he's been a very pro-environmental governor which is admirable and he doesn't tow the far-right conservative line either.

Jerry Brown did not run up the bills before and he won't this time, either.

Learn about him.

I can't wait to call Mr. Brown "Governor" again!!! However, I feel compelled to remind myself - and anyone else who recognizes the truth of the danger of complacency - that we all need to keep our eyes on the goal and remain prepared for the unexpected. Shamefully, there were deep pockets that successfully funded the ousting of Gov. Davis a mere few weeks after his election.

Wish I still lived in California, so I could vote for him (and Barbara). He will make a good governor (once again). Glad to see California voters are going to give Meg and Carly their walking papers.
Meg, why don't you though in another 20 million into the California media economy, I'm sure they appreciate it.

There's another twist on the money Meg is investing and why she proves herself unqualified for the position – in yet ANOTHER way. She is obviously not winning by throwing money at the campaign... yet she keeps doing it. What was it she said about doing the same thing over and over...? Not a very responsible problem-solver nor a good decision-maker, is she?

Jerry Brown is the only person I can think of who has a chance at digging California out of the economic ditch it's in.

Queen Meg seems to be on the ropes, but it ain't over until the fat lady sings November 3rd.

Nice idea, I suppose, but it would have been better to see or hear about this during all of those months where Meg raped my living room night after night after night.

Besides...... this is a done deal. :) Welcome back, Jerry!
