Alec Baldwin Defends Gay Marriage For Fight Back NY (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/20/10 11:05 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:05 PM ET

Alec Baldwin released a video today for the Fight Back NY, a campaign for marriage equality in New York, to urge voters to kick out those in the State Senate who voted against gay marriage last year.

In it, Baldwin addresses an earlier video by Jesse Tyler Furgason in which the Modern Family star professed his undying love for Baldwin, only to find out that the State Senate doesn't allow gay marriage.

Baldwin argues that just because he's a straight man shouldn't mean he can't marry Furgason, a gay man. "NO ONE tells a New Yorker they can't marry Jesse Tyler Furgason," he says, and urges New Yorkers to "remove from office those senators who stand in the way of equality."

I say thank you to anyone who makes any effort to help us. It doesn't matter to me who they are or where they are from, just that they understand the basic need to provide equality to all. Those of you who deny this will eventually fail and although that should give me comfort it does not. I would prefer to have you awaken to the fact that all we are asking for is for us to have the same right to join our lives together. You can say it doesn't matter, that civil unions accomplish the same thing, but to those of us who respect marriage it is important and it is something worth fighting for. We are really the defenders of marriage in the end.

Leviticus 18:22 (KJV): "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind it is abomination
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NIV): "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Darling, your precious Leviticus also says that it is an abomination to wear mixed-thread garments (no cotton-wool blends for you, buster!) and to eat shrimp.

And if you're excluding adulterers, thieves, greedy, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers from your heaven, where will you put all the Tea Baggers??

Addendum: I can't wait for the Rapture when christo-fascists like you get flung off the earth and into the skies so the rest of us can live here in peace.

I am moderate to liberal but I am not for Gay marriage because there is no such thing. Marriage by its very definition is the union of a man and a women. Marriage is the union of two things not alike to make something all new. That is how this term has always been defined in all uses of the word. Gay people can have a union but its not marriage. Just like anyone Gay and Lesbian people can marry the person of the opposite sex they choose. They have chosen not to so they don't want to be married. Baldwin you are an actor butt out. New York can make its own choices.

You would do yourself (and others you mislead) to research the history of marriage. You would find that marriage has NEVER "always" been defined the same way over the centuries. In the US, marriage is a civil right between two people, and it is legislated by the states. There is no legitimate reason these two people cannot be of the same sex. None. Not one.

Societies and gender roles are in constant change. Look at the number of women who just a few generations ago would be prohibited from their chosen profession (and wearing pants for that matter.) Marriage Equality will happen throughout our nation...it is a question when people are open to true equality.

CIVIL MARRIAGE IS A CIVIL RIGHT.

With over 50% of children now being born out of wedlock, the time has passed to need a social change like expanding marriage. It's all just a movement to demand something most people don't even want to have. That is no reason to change a time honored institution. Benifits and wills and insurance need reforming not marriage.

I agree with Alec, except for one minor point: we need to remove all of our sitting senators. They are all corrupt, and they are all culpable for helping destroy our once great state.

Schumer needs to go. He's the worst. He does nothing , but talk a blue streak

Except he's not a state senator who is standing in the way of Gay Marriage in New York - he's a US Senator. Totally different thing.
