Gulf Oil Spill Crude Remains Beneath The Sand 6 Months Later (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/20/10 10:38 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:05 PM ET

CNN revisits Florida shores six months after the Gulf oil spill began to discover that crude from BP's offshore well remains buried beneath the sand.

Dr. Richard Snyder, a biologist from the University of West Florida, is leading a team that continues taking samples to search out the lingering signs of oil, whether contaminating tiny sea life or hidden in layers deep under the coastline. "It just isn't going to go away over night. Six months and we've still got it," he tells CNN.

A combination of a snow blower and farming sifter called the 'Sand Shark' is on hand to help clean the tar, but the machine only goes to a depth of six inches, and CNN shows that a layer of oil remains deep below that. Some conservationists argue that using that heavy machinery to dig deeper may do more harm to the environment than good, according to CNN.

I think every single voter along the gulf coast should refuse to vote for anyone until they clean the mess up. Our lying corrupt greedy political process of bought and paid for corporate lackeys needs to be taught a lesson, needs to be hurt where it really sinks in, with their jobs and their greedy pocketbooks.

There is still oil in Prince William Sound 20 years after Exxon Valdez ☮

Exxon Valdez, 12.2 million gallons of oil

Deepwater Horizon, 205.8 million gallons of oil, 42 million+ gallons of dispersant

That is because politicians do not hold them accountable. They are paid off to look the other way.

wow - this is unreal! six months after being innundated with oil and it being soaked up by the millions of gallons - there's still oil! how canthat be - it defies the imagination! OMG, OMG. what did you prima donna authors expect? the point id that it is far less than anticipated and its effects on the environment will be less - that's good news - lets not belabor the obvious.

" Some conservationists argue that using that heavy machinery to dig deeper may do more harm to the environment than good, according to CNN." Out of sight, out of mind.

CNN might have a better shot at credible reporting, had they offered to identify "some conservationists" and explain why going deeper does more harm than good. What total corporate welfare reporting garbage!

Of course it has. The only thing that has disappeared is BP's promise to stay until the mess is cleaned up.

BP's promise? They promised something? We exist on corporate promises? What about the politicians that have been paid off to turn the other way?
