Michelle Obama Shows Off Statement Necklace (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 10/20/2010 2:01 pm   Updated: 05/25/2011 6:05 pm

Update: The First Lady's statement necklace was really TWO necklaces -- the Neon Ophelia Necklace (on top) and the Emma Necklace (on bottom) -- made by Ranjana Khan. Ranjana is the wife of designer Naeem Khan, who dressed Michelle for the State Dinner honoring India.

Previously: First Lady Michelle Obama hosted the winners of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities Youth Program Awards at the White House on Wednesday and she must have felt a little artsy herself, accessorizing with a statement necklace made from differently-cut jewels and flower petals.

She paired her bijoux with a simple Calvin Klein sheath and pale pink pumps.

Beautiful! The necklace is opulent, but with that simple dress, it is perfect for our FLOTUS.

Not every woman could wear it ( I know I couldn't) but Mrs. Obama has a perfect sense of what suits her.

ITA, KIV. What was up with that necklace? It looked like pieces of crepe paper, or pastel construction paper shoved in there. Hunh??? Very odd juxtaposition. Otherwise, loved it all, and her the most.

who ever took these pictures of the First lady needs to be fired, these pictures are just awful especially #8. the salmon colored dress is a nice color for her and I loved the necklace, but really; the pictures are terrible.

Dear Paid Trolls: It is more than obvious that you have been directed to the STYLE section as Mrs. Obama took to the campaign trail. It reeks of desperation that your masters are so intimidated by the First Lady that they pay you to try to drag down her approval rating with the public. On the other hand, you have reason to fear her.

This is all the style now, along with necklaces of "found' objects. Mixing elements is fun for the designer and the one who wears it.

It should be noted that our First Lady chose to dress up a simple, one-color dress with a fabulous necklace. Once again, she communicates that you don't have to spend a fortune on clothes to look good, just add a necklace or other accessory to vary the look. A perfect message for these tough economic times.

I am so enjoying a First Lady who doesn't put on the dog every minute of every day. She constantly looks so approachable and real. Bravo!

Are you kidding? She may dress in a "simple, one-color dress", but I'm sure that her clothes are not inexpensive! I wonder how many families could be fed for just a week for the money that was spent on her "simple" dress? Think about it.

She makes me so proud.... (big smile)

What a really beautiful dress she is wearing and looks soooo good on her: color, style, texture, cut, fit, length, everything. She looks beautiful.
