Mark Kirk Military Record Attacked By Veterans In New DSCC Ad (VIDEO)

With twelve days until the midterm elections, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee isn't about to let Illinois voters forget about Mark Kirk.

Specifically, they're paying for a 30-second spot to remind voters about Kirk's much-embellished military record. The ad features several veterans expressing their disappointment in Kirk's lies about his service and his votes in the House.

The spot, "Honor," highlights Kirk's dubious claims about his service in Iraq, as well as his votes against combat bonuses and job training for veterans.

So far, there are no details about the size of the ad buy, or in what markets it will be shown.

The DSCC's counterpart, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, hit back immediately after the ad launched.

"Only one candidate in this race honorably served our nation's military, while the other loaned millions of dollars to known criminals and lost millions of dollars in Illinois' college savings program," said NRSC press secretary Amber Marchand in a release. "This ad is shameful, and it's offensive to all of the men and women who have bravely served our nation's armed forces."

The ad had been foreshadowed in a blog post on The Weekly Standard earlier this week, in which blogger Daniel Halper caught Democratic operative Carl Nyberg soliciting veterans for the spot on Facebook.

"Will veterans stand for this?" Halper wrote. "A man who never served recruiting veterans to smear a fellow veteran for political gain? Will the mainstream media catch on and finally call out Giannoulias for going over the line? We'll see."

He has no principles. He voted one way while taking money from the North Shore rich. Now he is going to vote differently because he is taking money from the right wing. And he is an admitted liar - anything just to get the vote.

One of the many important agenda items for the next Congress will be the modernization of the military, to align with our need to fight unconventional warfare in an effective and responsible manner. We need to support our troops and their families--the best military asset we have is the intelligent people who defend the country. Mark Kirk has already disqualified himself from this debate by falsifying his own military record and more so by inexplicably voting against our military best interests. Kirk is wrong for Illinois.

Kirknocchio held a internet fundraiser with China--Treasonous! He lies so much that he probably doesn't know what the truth is anymore--Dishonest! He voted to raise his pay 6 times,but is indifferent towards everyday unemployed people--Self-Serving! He won't answer a debate question straight out he dodges and weaves giving no clue as to his positions---Evasive! As big of a Democrat as I am I don't agree with the dirty politics at all. I believe it was Ron Howard (?) recently that came about and said that what if political adds had no flashy pictures, but just text. Text, not about the wrongs the other committed but about how the candidate is prepared for the job and what the candidate will do. It truly would be a change. I wish this vision would come true.

I wonder if Mark Kirk knows about Jeremy Boorda. He was the Chief of Naval Operations, an admiral who rose through the enlisted and officer ranks, to the highest post in the Navy. He also lied about his military record, claiming to have come under enemy fire in a war zone. He wore the "V" for Valor device on his Viet Nam Service ribbon. When called out on it, Boorda committed suicide. Such is the level of shame for this dishonor. So far, Mark Kirk hasn't felt this shame. Repeatedly lying about one's service record besmirches his service. He has no honor.
