La Villa Contenta In Malibu: 'Funny People' House On The Market

Huffington Post     First Posted: 10/22/10 01:26 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:05 PM ET

Via RealEstalker: We wrote about this Malibu mansion in May when owner Richard Weintraub put it up for rent at $250,000 a month. It's now on the market for a whopping $75,000,000 for the entire estate, or $34,500,000 for a smaller parcel. The thirteen-bedroom, fourteen-bathroom property has 20,000 square feet of living space and sits atop over six acres of landscaped grounds. The grounds are filled with secret gardens, rose gardens, a kitchen garden, and a desert garden. Other structures besides the main home include the pool pavilion, guest house/office, green house, guest suite, and staff quarters.

The home has most recently been featured in the films I Love You Man and Funny People. Its luxurious digs draws many comparisons to William Randolph Hearst's mansions. Realestalker notes that the Weintraubs seem to have built "their own version of Hearst Castle on the bluffs of the Bu," complete with a pool house similar in opulence to the Hearst Castle's natatorium: "a palatial Greek Revival style natatorium/pool house with marble pilasters, walls encrusted with more than 500,000 seashells, six glittery crystal chandeliers, and a glass ceiling."

The indoor pool looks like it was featured in True Blood, as the Queens house.

Whew, nice place to visit, but who would ever want to live there? How could you ever relax? Especially surrounded by the platoons of workers it would take to keep such a place up, probably not a one of whom speaks a word of English.

It's really cool how you were able to slip that duschbag racist nugget in your comment.

Way to go!

For $75,000,000, it better come with one heck of pool boy.

For $75,000,000 it better come with 18 pool boys, a full staff and a small Island.

The actual pools are a bit bland. I expected some mosaic work on the bottoms or sides. And certainly not that oh so common turquoise color. A deep blue or black bottom or something. But I would have had mosaic work done on the bottom and around the edge. Something to reflect the pool house.

The mansion’s architectural designs are amazing, but some of the furniture is just plain crappy!

I'm going to vomit. WHEN are we going to start TAXING THE RICH? 40 MILLION AMERICANS are DYING and they have NO OPTIONS for healthcare. We can EASILY AFFORD a NATIONAL HEALTHCARE system in this country. Helping each other out, that should be our value. Instead, we have THIS.
10:01 AM on 10/25/2010
boy oh boy....what a jealous nelly you are. this wasn't about taxes, etc...............how do you know this owner is not a philanthropist, donates etc..................I am tired of people like you who put all wealthy people in one basket....having to apologize for their success.................."sorry I have a great home and you don't"....

At least the new owners will have to pay taxes on it.

Unlike purchases of yachet or planes or other high priced luxury goods that they only need delay bringing into the state to AVOID paying sales tax, thanks to Arnold.

The pool with the stepping stones is great but what's with the mausoleum next to it? Spectacular property but the architecture and the furnishings are garish and overdone.

and the furnishings aren't exactly chic. what is that silly table with the white chairs doing in a room of that house? and the sofas seem like a motel lobby.

I would certainly live out side if I had my druthers.

Just a weeeee bit overdone, don't you think?

Also, who (in their right mind) puts BRICK on the ceiling of ANY room of a house in EARTHQUAKE COUNTRY????

To make it worse, "let's position this nice sofa right beneath the bricks so there's NO chance of survival"!!! Completely nuts.

Agreed...way too fussy for me. But not sure the ceiling in the kitchen area is really brick; maybe wood? Brick would be just INSANE in earthquake-land.

I can't tell. Looks like brick to me.

Last week or so, they had one in LA with a GIANT mirror at the head of the bed!!!! How "challenged" does one have to be to do those kind of things in LA?!?!?!
