GOP Candidate Stephen Broden: Violent Revolution Is 'On The Table'

A Tea Party-backed congressional candidate in Texas is doing Sharron Angle's suggestive talk of "Second Amendment remedies" one better: he says violent overthrow of the government is "on the table."

"Our nation was founded on violence," Stephen Broden, a pastor running against Democratic Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson in Texas's 30th Congressional District, said in a recent interview with Dallas's WFAA-TV. "The option is on the table. I don't think that we should ever remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms."

Though Broden did concede that this method "is not the first option," these words are perhaps the sharpest from an establishment-backed GOP candidate and occasional Glenn Beck guest with a history of controversial statements.

WFAA's segment on Broden highlights statements that the made at a 9/12 rally last year, but is now walking away from.

"This administration is trying to figure out how to deal with that stress and so they are doing end-of-life counseling in order to depopulate that particular group of people," Broden said last June.

But he recently told WFAA that his views had changed:

"I don't think that they are trying to get senior citizens to die prematurely," Broden said. "I think they are entertaining end-of-life counseling based on economic viability."

He also likened the current state of affairs in America to those in Nazi Germany during the Holocaust:

"Let me tell you that is something that happened in Germany when the Jews were walking into the furnaces and they didn't even try to stop or fight their way," Broden said at the rally. "They walked in because they did not believe that this was happening. They didn't believe that humanity could be so evil. I am submitting to you tonight that is where America is right now. They are our enemies and we must resist them."

But when asked by WFAA if he thought Obama was like Hitler, Broden decided differently.

Whether or not Broden thinks there is a connection between the President of the United States and the fascist dictator of Germany, however, he does appear to believe that there is a conspiracy of "Darwinian Eugenics" against the black community currently manifesting itself in American society.

Thank you, Huffington Post, for reiterating the problem with media in this country today. Once again, you have misquoted and misunderstood the statements of a Republican candidate (shocking, I know). If you watch the full-length video of the interview (see americaisconservative.blogspot.com), you will watch as Pastor Broden explains his comments and his concerns that the American people cannot believe the direction the government is going. It is this shock that he compared to Nazi Germany. He never called Obama Hitler. He never insinuated it. Pay attention!!

Having seen Pastor Broden speak in a variety of settings, I am confident in his ability to do good things for the people in Dallas. I don't know if the Huffington Post and Brad Watson are incapable of hearing what he said or are choosing to push people to vote for Eddie Bernice Johnson, who has admitted to illegally funnelling money to her own family, taking it away from needy people within the community. Either way, it is inexcusable!

On the very unlikely event he were to win, I doubt he could take his oath of office. The founders did give us the advice to change our government if necessary in the Declaration of Independence, "....That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness...." This man's words however speak of sedition against the United States. I think this would preclude him from taking an oath to defend and protect the Constitution. Another bagger obviously asleep when the Bush administration was xing out parts of the Constitution. Funny how he is all crazy on the pulpit and Mr. Cool and Collected in the interview. How many personalities does he have?

What they are saying is: although the US is governed by a body of elected representatives CHOSEN BY THE PEOPLE, if we are still the minority, we will not be able to emotionally and psychologically deal with that, and will throw a temper tantrum, hoping to get what we want.

And how do they think that is going to work out for them? Do they really think there are enough of them that civil war is an option? Or is this just "kill the black guy" mentality, and that is what they are really mad about, and somehow think that assassination is their right since they are in the minority of the country.

Oh yes. Democracy is always healthiest when administered from the barrel of gun wielding "Christians." I use scare quotes here for emphasis. It's even healthier when the nattering yawp is coming from a man claiming to speak the language of God and Religion.

Even Huckabee knows what's going on with the willfully ignorant baggers and their established GOP masters:

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee slammed former Bush adviser Karl Rove and “elitism within the Republican establishment” yesterday. On a WABC radio show, Huckabee said Rove exudes a “country club attitude” and exploits grassroots activists’ energy but doesn’t “want them dining with us in the main dining room.”

Will you stand on that battlefield or do you expect the US Military to do all the work for you? Keep in mind that much of the military is right-wing for various reasons (religion, military funding, fox news = mandatory viewing, etc)

If it were to come to civil war for the second time in US history, it will not be simple nor pretty. No-one should wish for that.

My point is that there will be no civil war in the USA.. .the baggers and the right wing militias and all there little supporters don't have the guts or the firepower to accomplish anything beyond their own demise (which I would welcome).....

And I have stood on battlefields for my nation already.. I'm a retired military officer....

Unfortunately, due to Eddie Bernice Johnson's handing out scholarship to her family and friends, this guy actually has a shot a winning. Scary!
