Michelle Obama, Jill Biden & Nancy Pelosi Take The West Coast In Style (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Lady Jill Biden spent Monday on the West Coast, stopping in Bellevue, Washington for the afternoon to cheer on Senator Patty Murray at a campaign fundraiser. Michelle donned a printed Peter Pilotto blouse behind the podium, while Jill chose a gray dress with long strands of pearls.

In the evening, the duo met up with House Speaker Nanci Pelosi in San Francisco. Nancy went for a white suit (and we're far past Labor Day), Jill donned a dark frock with her hair pinned back and Michelle opted for a textured number and earrings by Mary Esses.

Don't forget Patty Murrary in the first two photos. She's from WA State and I think looks lovely in her little black suit and perky blonde hair do. She campaigned 16 years ago, at least around that time, as a MOM IN TENNIS SHOES and that's what she was and look at her now. I think she's great and has done well in both in DC and for WA.

dmsdzinr, and so is Senator Patty Murray shown in the black suit in the first two photos. She was elected to the WA State Senate in 1988 and then to the US Senate in 1992. I remember her campaigning as a MOM IN TENNIS SHOES. Murray and Boxer has distinguished careers in DC.

All 3 ladies look absolutely gorgeous! We have some sharp, smart and beautiful ladies representing us, that's for sure! And I can just say how much I love Patty Murray? She may be diminutive in size but in personality, smarts and dedication she's as big as they come, what a dynamo (and she's a cutie, too)! :)

And as much as I love the outfits the FLOTUS was wearing in these shots, I even more adore the dress she wore today in her appearance with Maria Shriver; eye poppingly stunning! Hope HP puts up some photos of the day's events!

Though I admit to liking Laura Bush and think she spent most of her time mortified, it is really nice to have a First Lady who can truly stand on her own and probably would make a great president, herself. It is easy to see how she landed Mr. President.

How lovely to see these political and wives of politicians come together for a worthy prize all smiling and dressed beautifully.

White was for as long as I can remember not to be worn after Labor Day and used to be quite frowned upon though mainly an east coast tradition as many of us in the fashion wold adhered to but that seems to have gone out the window as today everything seems to go and does.

Cakey, my problem is solved for me quite easily though I don't wear much white. I switch closets and shelves for winter and summer which I'm currently in the midst of doing. I don't pay much attention to the white rule on others though there is nothing like a lovely woman in a summer white dress. And since I'm not a colorful person, my answer to people who say I SHOULD wear more color, I'm quite over what people wear so if it fits you and it's clean I say great as long as you are happy.

selen, well send the fashion police after me as I wear "winter" white which is actually ivory just about all year long except in winter though I'll wear winter white sweaters in winter but not pants or skirt.

From my research (and I busted my wife on this over my choice of clothes) some time back it seems that a fashion reporter was talking to au couture designer CoCo Chanel, who was famous for her designs in black. She jokingly mentioned the infamous "white after Labor Day" rumor as a way to direct more women to her fashions in black. The reporter ran with it as a hard, fast rule observed by none other that the great fashionista Chanel! It took off from there. Wear white, girls!
