Last night, the 2010 NBA season began with the Miami Heat versus the Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns versus the Portland Trailblazers, and the Houston Rockets versus the Los Angeles Lakers. Now that the professional basketball season is in full swing, we thought the time was ripe to reflect on some of the sport's best books.

Although the egos and outspoken personalities of the league's stars might make for good TV shows, the wisdom required by the NBA's coaches often makes for excellent books. From Phil Jackson to Red Auerbach, coaches have shared great insight into success in both sport and life.

Here are 7 of the best books by basketball coaches. But what did we leave out? What other books by basketball coaches are worth reading?

'Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success: Building Blocks For a Better Life' by John Wooden

John Wooden, legendary UCLA basketball coach and player, as well as one of the most quotable figures in sports --

"Ability might get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there."

-- wrote a few books about sport and personal philosophy. Upon the coach's death, The LA Times highlighted Wooden's writing. Among Wooden's books, "Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success: Building Blocks For a Better Life" by John Wooden and Jay Carty stands out as the best.
