James Cameron, Gov. Schwarzenegger Speak Out Against Prop 23 In New Ad (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/27/10 08:05 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

Appearing at a joint webcast this afternoon, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and filmmaker James Cameron unveiled a new ad urging voters to reject Proposition 23 on next Tuesday's ballot. The duo have been outspoken critics of the initiative, which would repeal AB 32, California's Global Warming Act of 2006. In the ad, Cameron calls Prop 23 "the ultimate real-life disaster...terminating our air pollution standards, sinking our clean energy economy, and exploiting out environment for profit."

Doesn't anyone remember what happened the last time an energy company from Texas influenced California politics?

Does the name Enron strike a bell?

I can't believe that there are still people out there that does not know that humanity has increased CO2 levels by 50% (undeniable). Sure, the politicians will try to exploit (just as oil companies) but what is YOUR future worth...
Is it the saving of a few pennies that (should) go toward RE research and advancement?
Or is it the giving of a few pennies that help prevent LIMITATION in a fossil fueled trap?

The more I learn about AB 32, the more I fear it. It just gets worse. I cannot believe that the majority of the people who are proponents for AB 32 really know what it will do to the state. Please vote yes on Prop23.

""2 Guys on the Bay Area Transportation Board told the CARB people, "If you try to do what you are going to do(AB 32) we'll have gas at $9.07 a gallon and we have freeway tolls at up to $4,500 a year to drive during rush hour."

"Part of the plan is to stop suburban development, get people to stop driving, make driving too expensive for people to live out there, force them to live in high-rises, condos, in the city."

For months, John and Ken have made Prop 23 their top priority, calling it a necessary step to stop a law they say will kill jobs and cost Californians a fortune in higher gas and energy prices. With an estimated one million listeners per week, these two guys usually manage to rally enough votes to get their way. Maybe not this time.

The video has John and Ken explaining why they think this bill is the most important measure on the ballot.

After viewing the Cameron Schwarzenegger Ad I have to say, stick to fantasy Guys -- its what you do best.

The idea of making this issue a fantasy plea denigrates the intelligence of California Voters and Business that seeks to innovate in a hostile California regulatory environment.

Perhaps, we as taxpayers should "Follow the Money" to see why Cameron and Schwarzenegger prefer fantasy to reality for Business growth in California?

From my perspective, this isn’t about Oil vs Clean Energy, its about a poorly crafted piece of legislation that will do more harm than good and about protecting jobs until AB32 is fixed and we can afford it.

Very few voters have taken the time to read AB 32 and to understand it was enacted before the facts were known about flawed climate science predictions. AB 32 is Not a pollution control Bill, its a passe Global Warming Bill and no one even uses the term Global Warming any more.

AN 32 simply needs to strip out the Cap and Trade provision and reliance on Global Warming assumptions and its potentially a piece of leadership legislation. Sustainability, Clean Energy, and Stewardship are great goals but not at the expense of Common Sense.

AB 32 needs to eliminate the Cap and Trade provisions 70% of America Opposes, eliminate the unnecessary oversight Fees, eliminate the reliance on flawed Green House Gas assumptions, correct the vague language that will introduce Environmental Red Tape that will do more damage than good, ensure AB 32 doesn’t undermine The Rule of Law, and make non-governmental agencies like CARB accountable to the taxpayer for their mistakes.

If Rule of Law is allowed to become Rule by Bureaucrats using loosely defined AB 32 legislation or we are all doomed.

Vote YES on Prop 23, it makes the most sense until AB 32 is fixed and we can afford it.

Educated Americans and citizens of the world STILL use the terminology - GLOBAL WARMING. It's real - not a myth. Until we get the political "will" to change our disastrous ways, we are heading the way of the dinosaur (only 4,000 years ago when man was riding them - lol) - My three bedroom condo has gone without AC for the past 8 years - At a savings to me of about $12,000; recently - I had to replace my "Hot water heater" - what I learned while it was down this summer is a) I didn't need full time hot water and I had saved about $1,500 on my gas & electric bill and b) I could economize that cost and waste as well. We have to seriously "re-think" our comfort levels and waste - particularly since the power companies are not interested in the global warming crisis - they're concerned with profit. As a citizen - you can do both - cut back, save the environment and SAVE money. I would encourage most people to consider shutting down "hot water" or at least severely cutting back on "hot water heating" during the summer months. Nothing like a brisk cold shower during the summer to a) hasten the shower and b) save you money. Don't by the BS and faux 70% of America argument (conveniently the same BS number Fox uses in their weak Health Insurance industry support). Educated America - wants answers - not blind faith rhetoric of

I don't see any point in discussing the flaws in the climate science claims, you need to do the research for yourself and will simple reject any reasoned approach for a comments section.

There are numerous poll results available if you take the time to search for them. Here are a few:

POLL: Majority of Americans Oppose Gas Tax, New Energy Taxes in Wake of Gulf Oil Spill
http://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/2010/07/07/poll-majority-of-americans-oppose-gas-tax-new-energy-taxes-in-wake-of-gulf-oil-spill/

"70% of Americans oppose new energy taxes to combat global warming"

American Thinker
October 28,2010
http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/10/the_extremism_of_barbara_boxer.html

Cap and Trade section:
Most Americans believe Cap & Trade:
- will cause increased costs for energy and significant job losses
- opens the door to corruption
- unlikely to have any measurable effect on global warming

NFIB
http://www.nfib.com/issues-elections/issues-elections-item/Default.aspx?cmsid=49409

Cap and Trade page:
see the poll link under the Small Business Surveys indicate Opposition
66% (of Small Business owners) Somewhat or Strongly Oppose Cap and Trade
71% conclude it will increase energy costs
54% it will lead to more lost jobs
58% it will limit economic growth
81% Somewhat or Strongly agree increased costs will be passed on to the consumer

"AB 32 needs to eliminate the Cap and Trade provisions 70% of America Opposes"

But that's the BIG money!! These global warming bills are all about cap and trade, the rest is just solar panels and other clutter.

The sheep will vote no on Prop 23 and then when they get fleeced and sheared they will wonder what happened. This green jobs initiative has failed already in every place it has been tried, but the egotistical jerks in California actually believe they are setting a precedent that other states and even countries will follow...not. The other states will just welcome the companies with open arms who leave California. There is nothing Ca can do to affect global warming..nothing. I would suggest some of the anti 23 people read some fo CARB's proposal for implementation of AB32, it should horrify you.. Some examples...increase gas prices, stop the building of suburban dwelling...People, everyone of these proposition on the ballets are not written with you in mind or your best interest..simply follow the money to see who is supporting it on either side of the argument. and if Prop 25 passes...you might as well pack and leave now.

That's a coal and oil argument. One person can't change the situation. Right - but collectively, we can. Has to start somewhere - living in denial is not an option. Ask the head of Duke Energy - who admits as much despite his businesses rich output.

Ha, the "sheep" are the ones being bought by the propaganda Texas oil and the Koch brothers are selling them. C'mon, do you seriously think Texan oil companies give a wit about California jobs? Um, no! They care about their profits and only their profits. Almost all California legislatures on both sides of the isle, business interests and the health industry is against this. Even the individual Chamber of Commerce groups, who are usually extremely conservative, are against this. Just look at the ballotpedia and see who supports this and who is against it.
Don't be fooled by the propaganda!

totally agreed! Two OUT OF STATE oil companies, rove's crossroads for america, and The Koch Brothers wouldnt be pouring millions into this race not even in their own states except that they have money riding on this! They know they will lose money because of their proven pollution records. Just like the Mormons with PROP 8, GET THE F OUT OF OUR ELECTIONS! Prop 23 WILL fail VOTE NO! and PROP 25 will PASS Vote yes. End gridlock in sacramento. The republican minority in Sac holds up the budge everytime. And if they ever get the majority in Sacramento they won't be bitching about the 50%+1 would they?? Taxes cannot be risen under Prop 25, dont believe the lies. Also dont forget Kamala Harris for Attorney General! She is for equality for all unlike Cooley who wants to uphold unconstitutional laws that are no longer the "will of the people". Out of state money is going to stop her because they know that her future will be bright if she becomes Attorney General. They want a woman governor in Meg but they want to make sure it can never be Kamala.

The California Jobs Initiative (CJI) is an oil corporation farce and fraud. There is no connection, whatsoever, between greenhouse gas emission reduction and the loss of jobs. This notion is an insult to the intelligence of the people of California. In fact, there is job growth in the clean, renewable energy industry, Chevron employs 65,000 worldwide and CJI is not going to change this. The only jobs created by the oil industry are clean-up jobs after oil spills and deep water, blow-outs and pump-handler jobs. CJI will make fantastic profits for the oil industry, increase air pollution, especially in communities around their refineries and there will not be lower gas prices. Koch Industries, Valero and Tesoro are super Enrons. Since when did the oil companies start to show any concern for the unemployed and their families and for small businesses?

Whenever big money from out of state is financing a campaign to support a proposition like 23, you can bet special interests see a problem for their future bottom line. They hate regulation and anything connected to stopping the effects of global warming or lessening the flow of fossil fuel based energy sources.

"terminating our air pollution standards, sinking our clean energy economy, and exploiting out environment for profit."

They simply can't fight Prop 23 with the truth. They have to lie.

Prop 23 leaves us with the most stringent air pollution standards in the country, and among the toughest in the world.

Texas has triple the wind-powered electrical generation as California, and they have no job killer AB 32.

Exploiting the environment for profit? HYPOCRITES!!!!

Vote YES for Prop 23. It is the sensible choice. It really is about jobs and the economy.
