Daniel Chitic: Traian Basescu, Romanian President, Slapped Me

Romanian President Traian Basescu is facing assault charges after a dinner altercation in which he allegedly slapped an associate, the Telegraph is reporting.

Lawyer Daniel Chitic claims the president hit him after a tense exchange outside a restaurant on the Black Sea coast. As Basescu was leaving the restaurant, Chitic says he said, "Shame on you!" Basescu reportedly returned the jibe by calling the lawyer "an idiot" and slapping him across the face.

The president's office denied the assault, but confirmed that an unnamed person insulted Basescu that night, according to reports.

This is the second time the president has been accused of a physical attack. In 2009, a video surfaced that allegedly showed Basescu striking a 10-year-old boy in the face in 2004 when he was still mayor of Bucharest.

Eastern Europeans politicians sometimes think they are rulers and you must understand their mentalities. One generation hasn't passed yet since the democratic republics formed so some politicians still have some bad communist habits - although they detest communism.

Eastern Europeans of his generation who sadly are the ruling class must past away ( one generation has not passed yet since the wall fell) before freedom and democracy can take hold. What I mean is these guys in power in eastern Europe countries were around when the communists were in power. They may be democratic republics however a hierarchy exists and they often times believe themselves to be deities.

Did you guys Realize that in European countries (not western) politicians and their staff have IMMUNITY from legal prosecution while in office? Try that on for size-- baggers would love that I am certain.
