True Colors: Gay Men's Chorus Of Los Angeles Films 'It Gets Better' Video

Via LA Times: The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles has just released their own version of the It Gets Better video, Dan Savage's project to show gay teens what it's like to accept yourself as an "openly gay adult."

The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles began in the 1970s as a response to the gay civil rights movement and is now "one of the country's largest men's choral ensembles." In their It Gets Better video, they sing "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper, forgoing their usual performance blacks and concert hall venues for multi-hued street clothes on an indoor basketball court. LA Times reports "The group said that more than 200 people participated in the five-minute video, which was filmed at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in L.A."

We dare you not to cry at the bridge, when family members, friends, and community members lend their voices to support the Los Angeles' Gay Men's Chorus.

I applaud this effort and the efforts of many who are in the public eye regarding this topic. One group of celebrities is missing. What about our sports heros? Where are they? This segment of the culture tends to attract young men who engage in this type of behavior. Where are they in combating this trend?

What a beautiful and powerful message, I hope it helps those teens who are getting bullied, and that one day all will understand that love is love, it doesn't matter whom one loves, the important part is to be able to love freely.

C'mon people. We cannot be content with "it gets better" -- because that means more kids will die. We need to MAKE IT BETTER NOW.

I agree with you Good Wolf, but I think this is really important because it is an attempt to help people right now, this instant in whatever lousy situation they are in. Improving the world needs to be a priority, but in this moment, this is an important show of support and hope. I've read lots of the comments on the youtube site and have seen several from kids who said that it had stopped them from killing themselves. It helped them right now.

the best advice I can give to someone who is wondering if they should come out or not would be to judge your surroundings and the people around you. If you can objectively look around you and see that you would be OK with coming out and the people around you would be supportive then great, but if your skeptical and you think it might not go over well, then i say stay in the closet until you leave. If people ask, you either lie or play coy...trust me I know what im talking about. You have the rest of your life to be yourself, 4 years of being in the closet in high school wont be so bad. Don't act flamboyant, just try and act like everyone else, trust me, its what I did and I was not bullied. You don't need to come out in high school to be happy, actually, you don't need to come out at all, just show up to a family event with someone, not only is it good to have an ally when you do, but people will usually act better around strangers.
