Rally To Restore Sanity Attendance

The Rally to Restore Sanity has come to a close, and crowd estimates are beginning to trickle in. It is clear that a huge number of people attended the event (see photos from the rally here), but the calculations vary among sources.

According to CBS News, 215,000 people showed up for the rally on Saturday. By comparison, CBS estimated that 87,000 -- just 40% of the Sanity Rally estimation -- attended Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally in August.

Canada's CTV, meanwhile, wrote that 250,000 people were estimated to have partaken in the Rally to Restore Sanity.

Earlier on Saturday, Brian Stelter tweeted that the Parks Service approximated that "well over 200,000" attended Saturday's rally.

Why Gleen Beck can use misinformation and hate speech to make 26 million a year with his show on Faux News?
While most networks have minimum ethical standards and play by the rules of professional journalism Faux News is about bias propaganda based on misinformation and hate speech.

Glenn Beck misinformation, hooliganism and hate speech

I was there but I left because it was too crowded and I couldn't see or hear.

Do I still get credit?

REPUBLICAN WIN IS A PYHRRIC VICTORY

We still control the Senate which has the final say on the passage of the bills into law, and the Presidential Vito. The power to pass bills into law are still in the hands of the Democratc Administration.

The same mid-term victory for the Republicans took place during the Clinton first term, and when he won his second term as President, they spent next four years masturbating trying to impeach Clinton.

The Republican win in the mid-term elections was a Pyhrric Victory:
The Republicans are now Responsible for initiating legislation to get us out of this depression they got us in the first place, but passage into law depends on the Senate.

Let's see if they still put Party before Country and remain the Party of NO !

Who is we? Neither party deserves an ounce of influence, maybe an ounce of some herb tho, tell 'THEM' to chill out with the divisiveness

Here's a clip of me playing music to the thousands of people with my guitar, amp, and generator. The people just kept coming and coming. It was very exhilarating!

This was an amazing rally. It was packed to the gills, but we had a good time.

You can see from my video how packed in we were.

TO: Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert,
Congrats on a successful Rally/March.
Ignore the critics. They try to classify you and compare you and what you did and who you are is without compare. As you have done before, your shows have broken so many rules. Oh, how I admire that!

Your greatest accomplishment was how you connected with your customers so meaningfully. I joined them in donating to DonorsChoose.org(hot link, new window) again. You deepened brand engagement from the announcement through the event, where your community created local events, coordinated group pilgrimages and more. I attended the local Denver event, and it captured much of the same vibe as DC.

You have considerable more upside in leveraging your brands to greater earnings, across potential endorsements and licensed products. I’d sure love to help you with that. Your Rally/March merch was uninspired, despite great potential.

In admiration of your courage, smarts and sexiness,
Jules

Who brought who over on those boats?

It only matters if that translates into progressive votes today!
06:11 PM on 11/02/2010
Because progressives love to try and hide behind a fake moderate label.
05:56 PM on 11/02/2010
LOL too funny hey why not just make it a cool million. Those number are never right. Lets see the only crowd estimate that matters,,, todays election
07:40 PM on 11/02/2010
Um, this was a non-partisan non-GOTV rally. So, sorry. That *and* it was much better and better-attended than Glenn Beck's.
07:44 PM on 11/02/2010
and if i was a fool i would believe that. Just look at who was backing it. as for the numbers about the same

There are situations amenable to faith and situations amenable to science, and situations where both have merit. Counting people in a space seems reasonably amenable to science.

The methodolology for the 87,000 (78,000-96,000 range) is in the link below, which includes a link to over 400 spatially sequential photographs and grids to calculate crowd density. The photos were taken in such a way that they could see under the trees to verify grid density estimates. CBS did not do the analysis.

Fans of science:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20015214-503544.html?tag=pop

The same scientific method was used to estimate 215,000 (193,500-236,500 range) for the Sanity and/or Fear Rally. See Link:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20021284-503544.html

Unfortunately I have seen nothing even close to the detailed methodology for larger numbers for the Restoring Honor event. Seems to me the higher calculations for the Restoring Honor event rely more on faith or opinion than science.
