Betsy Markey Gets Last-Second Ad Boost From DCCC

Last Second DCCC Ad Boost A Sign Of Hope For Markey

A last-second decision by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) to pay for television ads for Colorado representative Betsy Markey is being seen by some Democrats as cause for renewed hope.

For months, reports have indicated that the national Democrats were far from bullish on Markey's prospects against Republican Challenger Cory Gardner in the traditionally-Republican CD-4. Earlier this month, the fact that the DCCC's decision not spent $700,000 it had set aside for Markey's district was taken as a sign that the organization saw the freshman congresswoman as "beyond saving."

On Monday, however, the Wall Street Journal reported that the DCCC's last-second ad buy could mean her campaign is "showing signs of life."

"By spending money to air campaign commercials in the final days before the election, the committee seems to believe [Markey's seast is] in play," the Journal writes.

The limited public polling in the district has shown Gardner with a 5-10 point lead over Markey.

Also of note in CD-4, the Coloradoan reports that election officials are "perplexed" by an unexpectedly low turnout in early and mail-in voting in the district. Officials stressed that low turnout could result a swarm of election-day voters, or simply a low overall turnout.
