Horror Shows Saving Farms

First Posted: 11/01/10 04:23 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

Struggling farmers across America have found that reaping the harvest might not be as lucrative as the Grim Reaper.

NBC Nightly News reports that some 500 farms have turned to haunted houses, cornfields and hayrides to supplement incomes from crops.

The eerily elaborate displays can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, but farmers tell the network that the investment is worth it for the amount they can earn during the halloween season.

Green acres is the place for me.
Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.

New York is where I'd rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue.

...The chores.
...The stores.
...Fresh air.
...Times Square

You are my wife.
Good bye, city life.
Green Acres we are there.
