Bookstore Bingo: 9 Ridiculous Things Overheard In Bookstores (PHOTOS)

With eBook sales up, you'd think we'd overhear fewer ridiculous things in bookstores. But it seems there's no end to the crazy scenarios booksellers encounter.

"Can you tell me who the author of Shakespeare is?" Yes, someone really did say that ... And it's probably one of the reasons #bookstorebingo started as a Twitter hashtag. The fun is never ending, so now we're back for more!

Find out what people have said recently and join the conversation yourself -- use #bookstorebingo on Twitter and tell us what you've heard at your local bookshop, or let us know in the comments section below.

The first one makes sense. With a coffee shop in every bookstore, sometimes they do smell more like Starbucks.

In another life in the 80s, I was a book store manager. One of my favorite questions a customer asked was, "Who wrote the 'Diary of Anne Frank?'"

The bet you read all day comment is like when I worked at an animal shelter and people thought we played with puppies and kittens all day -- rather than shoveling the byproducts of puppies and kittens.

I still read paperbacks and am proud of it!

I love going to the bookstore to find books, but read everything on the Kindle. I feel guilty about it, but what can you do?

There really should be an open standard for e-readers, so you can buy them anywhere. The problem is that everyone making as a vested interest in selling their books. No one wants to share.

You can buy a couple paperbacks as gifts for the Kindle-less.

I think that readers are going to be sold for dirt cheap eventually -- or given away with the purchase of a certain amount of books -- and that the ebook sales are the real goal.

While I usually enjoy this segment, the "smell like starbucks" is sadly true and I also find myself looking at books to buy on my nook.

I don't have a kindle or nook, but I do tend to shop the bookstore for stuff I can buy online. I love bookstores, but when I can get three or four titles on line for what I would spend for one at the store, well.... I don't have an unlimited income.

As the former owner of an independent bookstore that eventually went bankrupt, it broke my heart to meet former customers at the post office picking up their packages from Amazon. The way things are going, real books will be obsolete in another generation or so.
