NBC News was the first to project that the House of Representatives would be taken over by the Republican Party Tuesday night.

Brian WIlliams made the call at around 9:00 PM on NBC; it was called on MSNBC at the same time. It wasn't until about 12 minutes later that Fox News projected that the house would go to the GOP, and CNN reported the news at about 9:17 PM.

Interestingly, the New York Times' live-blog notes, NBC was able to make the call before polls closed in the west.

As of 9:30 PM, neither ABC News nor CBS News had projected the final makeup of the House.

CNN tends to be the most responsible when covering elections. They seem to be pretty good about holding their projections and exit poll results until the polls have already closed. The others don't seem to be able to just sit tight for an extra hour.

um everyone call the GOP winning the house for the past 2 months. It was never a question of if they would win but by how much. This is a lame story

And this is important because....???

Since when is reporting voting results a horse race? What would be the Tea Bag Party equivalent of mainstream, corporate media?? That's what is needed.

Republicans do not understand that the Editorial Page of any newspaper is TOTALLY SEPARATE from the News Division! Too sad that conservatives don' t know how to read a newspaper.

This is wrong. By making these projections, voters in Nevada stay home even though we are three hours behind the East Coast.
I despise this horserace journalism.

Journalism ??? These guys aren't journalists, they read from a teleprompter. They are moderators that have a part to play in the political WWF wrestling match that we call elections.

The Republican and Democrats elites work for each other and you are just a member of the audience. Your part is to have your pockets picked while you root for your favored wrestler.

The Roman games are alive and well in the 21st century.

Or several months ago, when they started to project the GnOP "Tsunami"
