19 Romantic Spots Around The World (PHOTOS)

What makes a "romantic" place romantic? The fact that it was featured in a Hollywood romcom?

For some people, yes. But if we're planning a trip with a special person, we look for three things in a place: beauty, history and mystery (did not mean that to rhyme!), together with great restaurants, museums, bazaars, and endless possibilities for adventure, minus the endless stream of tourists.

So, you obviously will not find the Eiffel Tower or a LOVE sculpture on this list. These are 17 picturesque places around the world, some well-frequented, others off-the-path, that promise you a rich and uniquely romantic holiday. Enjoy!

Please. The most romantic spot in the world is wherever I am -- and sometimes with a woman!

I think the "Sevilla" photo is actually showing Al-Hambra palace in Granada.
It definitely belongs to the list as well as Sevilla, although when you talk romantic how come there was no mention of Taj Mahal.

It's actually the Alcazar in Seville, not the Alhambra.

Of course, what was I thinking.
Thanks for the correction. It's been 6 years since my last visit to Spain. I think that's the reason for another visit

All nice places, though anywhere Mrs KIV is seems a romantic spot for me.

Took a trip through Europe summer of 09 and a couple on our trip got engaged at the top of Mount Pilatus. Love them. The moment was beautiful and the setting was beyond epic for such an event!

No sense showing Shiraz or any other wonder place in Iran, the US government does not permit its citizens to go there -- much like we can't go to Cuba either. Heck of job, Obama.

I heard about a couple of US hikers that are visiting Iran. I wonder how they are enjoying their stay

I think they're being held on charges of illegally entering the country and espionage -- and they're probably experience treatment not much different than that of a similarly situated Iranian would experience here in the US.

Meanwhile ten of thousands of tourist from Europe and Asia travel in Iran every year without incident.

The most romantic spot is your own home...the other place are interesting but the hassle and expense associated with travel has a way of sapping romance.

The only one of those I'd call truly "romantic" is Brugge.

I don't know who comes up with these lists, but they are absurd. I can think of at least 10 places I've been around the world that would rate about this clown's places. Maybe he just tossed a bunch of names into a hat and drew them out. There is a difference between "romatic" and "scenic."

I'm confused... I've always known a "Romantic Spot" to be where me and my Significant Other are while being romantic. The setting helps I agree, but I know for a fact that in my lifetime as a lover and romanticist, my best moments were because of 'the MOMENT,' not the location.

I lived in Micronesia for a few years and I can tell you, sunsets and sunrises there can be extremely romantic, but if I were alone they'd just be 'nice sun event experiences.' One of my greatest experiences that I would consider absolutely "ROMANTIC" was lying in a field directly underneath the Aurora Borealis while up in the Yukon. If I had no one to share that experience with, then like all of the locations listed in this post, it would just be nice tourist spot - as are all of these. AND, although stated that these locations are "minus the endless stream of tourists," if even one tourist shows up, there goes the romantic quality.

Romance is an infusion of the heart, not a location. Just my humble opinion.

When it comes to Love, Sex, and Rock'n'Roll, I am a purist. The headline to this "Romantic Spots" list just doesn't qualify, I am sorry.

very true...your experience under the Aurora Borealis was probably amazing! I'm not a romantic, but that is pretty darned romantic! I'm partial to a bench outside the Blue Mosque in Turkey myself:)
