Michele Bachmann Running For GOP Leadership Position

Michele Bachmann Gop Conference Chair

Speculation has quickly turned into action for Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) Wednesday, who announced her intent to run for a leadership position as the GOP Conference Chair, the party's fourth in command.

Big Government had earlier reported that Bachmann was planning to take advantage of the power vacuum created by Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), who earlier stepped down as Conference Chair, leaving an opening at the current 3rd most powerful spot, which is set to be downgraded after a GOP member is named Speaker of the House.

"Constitutional conservatives deserve a loud and clear voice within the GOP leadership, and Congresswoman Bachmann will be the perfect voice for that," spokesman Sergio Gor said, according to the Minnesota Independent. "As we saw last night, Constitutional conservatives are what the American people want, not more of the same party establishment."

Earlier this week, with the Republicans pick up of the House looking imminent , reports swirled about the popular conservative legislator probing a potential promotion in the aftermath of the elections.

Though some were skeptical about her odds of making the move, particularly because of her "stingy" contributions to fellow House campaigns, those earlier reports now appear to have come to fruition.

Big Government sees her foray into the upper ranks of the GOP as a necessary step for Republicans in order to maintain the momentum that the Tea Party, a key backer and fascination of Bachmann's, has provided them.

Bachmann earlier fostered the creation of the House Tea Party Caucus, and Big Government calls the Conference Chair a "well-positioned to inject grass-roots energy into the majority caucus," as an ideal building block for that preliminary endeavor.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), Bachmann's conservative compatriot, appears to be the first on board.

"Michele Bachmann is running for Republican Conference Chair. I'm 100% on board. She is the right voice for the new conservative majority!" he tweeted Wednesday.

No word from John Boehner, however, whose aspirations to be Speaker were recently met with tepidness by Bachmann.

UPDATE: Politico reports that Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who was apparently seeking the position himself, will support Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling, who also has the support of Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), over Bachmann.

This will interesting to watch. Bachmann is a favorite of the T Party Crowd and I can see them being upset if she doesn't get the position especially if the GOP leadership, like Cantor, actively work against her.

Rep. Jeb Hensarling, the candidate Cantor is backing, was the subject of an ethics investigation early this year over campaign donations and his vote against the financial regulation  Read More...

Oh, Michele, we need 10 black coffees, 12 coffees with just a splash of cream and no suger, 14 cups of tea, 8 onion bagels toasted with cream cheese, 13 glazed donuts, 5 cheese blintzes, and don't forget to get yourself some crow on toast and also bring your notepad please. Can get that together in 15 minutes, the meeting will be starting then?

We'll be in conference room 3.

Thanks, Michele, you're such a princess.

Well, Sir! The Grand Ol' Party will have to turn to Buck Owens for their new theme song:

I won't be much when you get through with me"

I think they should elect her speaker, wouldn't that be a hoot.
11:51 AM on 11/05/2010
That would be awesome. I wonder how Boehner and his cronies would react to that. The Repubs only embraced the Tea Party so they could get back into power and now they have to lie in bed with who bought them here. I can see a lot of dissention from the Tea Party and a lot of infighting between the regular Repubs and the Partiers.

If they can't get along with themselves, the Repubs might find themselves in a really tough position come 2012 despite the fact that things look so great for them at the moment.
04:45 PM on 11/08/2010
You're exactly right. They're letting their party be hijacked by the Tea Party. The TP (funny that this also stands for toilet paper) should form their own group and do it without calling themselves Republicans. They can also skip the GOP funding. Then they can split the conservative/radical vote and the country can be run by the Dems.

People can have a job and still be mentally ill. Michele Bachmann falls into that category. She's delusional. She sees things that aren't there. She imagines things to be true that are completely false. She cannot tell the difference between her imagination and reality. She should not be making laws that affect the rest of us.

What is particularly disturbing is how easily she has convinced other people that her delusions are real.

Please take Bachmann somewhere far away. Anyone else catch her stellar interview with Anderson Cooper yesterday. He gave her chance after chance, she could not answer a single question. She had some bone she tried to pick about Obama's upcoming trip to India (that was her budget-reducing measure) spouting that it was going to cost $200million per day. Anyone with half a brain knows that is an impossible figure and would think before repeating it. But repeat it, she did. He asked where she got that info from.... "somewhere on the internet". He asked "so just because you saw it on the internet it is believable?" and the look on his face was just priceless. Turned out to be (of course!) totally unfounded. Prime example of this woman's grasp on reality.

Minnesota must have a real shortage of women with a brain to put this loon in congress. I saw the interview and everytime someone ask's the same questions she has the same look, deer in the head lights. All she wants to do is investagate Obama's team and look for reason for impeachment even though she forgets that the democrat's said no impeachment for bush and the boys.I think she needs some serious medecation.
11:57 AM on 11/05/2010
What is the deal with Bachman, the Repubs and this impeachment stuff? If they actually do begin the impeachment process then the Democrats need to stop being soft little suckers and do the same thing to a Repub president when they get the chance. Since the Demos didn't impeach Bush, it's obvious that that is something that they do not look to do. For Repubs, it is just standard operating procedure.

The Repubs are always on the attack. The Demos are always being soft and getting bullied. They need to stand up and get some spines. We need Ed Schultz in Congress to eat Boehner and let's get Olberman in there to counter Al Franken.

How can we take the Republicans seriously if they support Bachman? Calls for the end of government waste and then takes farm subsidies. Another example of do as I say, not as I do. Her claims of investigating members of Congress for Un-American activities would make Joe McCarthy proud and does nothing to further the Republic.
Even Garrison Keillor is embarrassed by this lunatic.
11:58 AM on 11/05/2010
What exactly constitutes an Un-American activity? I guess taking American jobs, shipping them to another country and pocketing campaign cash in exchange isn't Un-American if you ask Bachman cause that's what her people are doing.

Bachmann showing that she is clueless for everyone to see - it might be the straw that breaks the camels back -it just makes women look bad - there has to be a bright women on the Repubs side - showing a little division in their ranks will keep them clawing their way to the top and fall a bit easier

WE ARE DOOMED!
12:03 PM on 11/05/2010
We are doomed!!! Well, only if you are a quarterback on the New York Giants schedule this season. As a country I think we'll be okay. We are a self-stupid, then self-correcting nation. We vote in people who have no interest in helping us. Then we get mad and vote them out. Then we get mad at the people who we just voted in and vote the other way and get mad again. It's a crazy cycle. But we're not doomed. We're just gonna have way more homeless/ jobless/ newly broke so now I'm a criminal types out there. Just get a big lock for your front door and plenty of bullets for the gun under your bed and you'll be fine.
