Obama: Climate Change Solutions Other Than Cap-And-Trade Will Be Explored

DINA CAPPIELLO   11/ 3/10 06:14 PM ET   AP

Obama

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said Wednesday he will look for ways to control global warming other than placing a ceiling on greenhouse gases.

"Cap-and-trade was just one way of skinning the cat; it was not the only way," Obama said at a news conference a day after Democrats lost control of the House. "I'm going to be looking for other means to address this problem."

Legislation putting a limit on heat-trapping greenhouse gases and then allowing companies to buy and sell pollution permits under that ceiling narrowly passed the House in 2009 as a centerpiece of Obama's domestic agenda, but then stalled in the Senate.

Republicans dubbed the bill cap-and-tax because it would raise energy prices. They then used it as a club in the midterm elections against Democrats who voted for it. Thirty of the bill's supporters were among the some 50 House Democrats whom voters turned out of office Tuesday.

"There are a lot of Republicans that ran against the energy bill that passed in the House last year," Obama said. "And so it's doubtful that you could get the votes to pass that through the House this year or next year or the year after."

He said it was important, in whatever solutions are pursued, "not to have us ignore the science, but rather find ways that we can solve these problems that don't hurt the economy...that in fact may give us opportunities to create entire new industries and create jobs."

Obama's Environmental Protection Agency has taken steps to reduce greenhouse gases using existing law after a 2007 Supreme Court ruling said it had the authority to treat greenhouse gases as pollutants. Regulations requiring major industrial sources to slash their emissions would take effect early next year, but not before attempts by Congress to block the EPA from taking action.

The Senate in June rejected 53-47 a challenge brought by Alaska Republican Lisa Murkowski that would have denied the EPA the authority to move ahead with the rules. Six Democrats voted with Republicans to advance the "resolution of disapproval," which the White House had threatened to veto. A similar resolution has broad support in the House with 140 co-sponsors.

"I don't think ... the desire is to somehow be protective of their powers here," Obama said when asked about the EPA's efforts.

Obama said Wednesday that while the court order gave EPA jurisdiction over greenhouse gases, the EPA wants help from the Congress.

"The smartest thing for us to do is to see if we can get Democrats and Republicans in a room ... and seeing are there ways we can make progress in the short term and invest in technologies in the long term that start giving us the tools to reduce greenhouse gases and solve this problem."

Obama is atleast telling the truth for once. Other options to cap-and -trade will be explored. He said it himself. If he could not get cap-and-trade passed, he would use what tools he already has such as the EPA. The same EPA that basically answers to no one, and make up the rules as they go. I remember the commercial that aired during the Super Bowl this past year. The one with the green police. While this seemed funny and amusing to most, it scared the hell out of me. I see this as being the EPA one day.

Humans exhale carbon dioxide, and plants breath it and give off oxygen. What a beautiful creation from God, and yet the powers to be want us to think this is some how wrong. This green crap isn't all to do with pollution such as car exhaust. Allot of this insanity has to do with us humans breathing. They literally want to tax us for breathing.

Folks the party has just begun. Please don't believe me! Just sit back and watch what the EPA is up to. By the time this is all said and done, we will be having home inspections from bureaucrats. Much like the naked body scanners, and pat downs at the airports, the American people will take it.

"The same EPA that basically answers to no one..."

The EPA is headed by an administrator who answers to the President and is overseen by Congress. Much like most federal agencies. The EPA cannot "make up the rules as they go" and have very long and detailed procedures which rely on scientific support of actions and opportunities for comment by citizens and corporations.

"Humans exhale carbon dioxide...They literally want to tax us for breathing."

Humans and other living things are carbon neutral in that they only give off what they've taken in. CO2 is added to the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels. We already manage other forms of pollution and tax fossil fuels, it won't be a significant effect. In fact, the now-abandoned bill would have cut middle class energy expenses.

I carefully word anything that I put on the internet. I strive to be as accurate as possible so as not to mislead others. Anyone reading this , simply go to google and type in: Obama says energy prices would necessarily skyrocket, under the tax and trade scam. It doesn't say 1 word about the middle class having energy taxes decreased. Quite the opposite. Why would it be the middle class anyway. Everyone uses electricity.

Burning fossil fuels is part of the supposed green house gases problem. But, I guess I am the only one who has heard about the human, carbon foot print problem. If anyone wants to be more enlightened about this and many other subjects, go to infowars.com. I discovered them in 2006 and have learned quite a bit about what is really going on in the world. Check it out.

Blaming the President is silly. There is no way that it can pass with a republican house.

"There is no way that it can pass with a republican house."

A significant part of the change was to replace blue dog democrats with tea partiers who may be easier to sway.

This is a perfect example of what non-progs have to be continually on guard.

The SOROS REG!ME understands that once a tools of their Open Society / One World cr@p gets trampled under foot they simply admit defeat & them regurgitate it under a different guise.

Chicago Climate Exchange is a perfect example

http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/9629
http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2010-11/us-carbon-trading-grinds-halt-while-other-nations-step

The exchange collapses & low & behold other like entities form in other countries. SURPRISE, SURPRISE....................

CAP & TAX will be exactly the same.

ACORN is yet another example.

Van Jones get's canned from Team Titanic & the next day he's arrives at another branch of the SOROS REG!ME.

Don't be fooled - this is going to be a long, intense battle. The good news is that his REG!ME is now out of the shadows & the folks are becoming aware of how dangerous He & His acolytes are to our Republic....................

Soros makes money hand over fist in the current economy, he doesn't need any kind of secret movement. By the way, how is it that you understand this massive secret conspiracy but no one else does?
02:45 PM on 11/15/2010
Money?????

Poor sheeplet..................

The Soros Reg!me isn't interested in mere money; power is what they're after. If you actually listen to his own words, read his Open Society website he is very open about what his intention are regarding his Open Society / One World Order.

What has happened to Obama's ability to listen to and talk with people? His choice of words is abhorent - skinning cats! People who use words poorly usually don't think clearly. What's up with our former hero?

Obama needs a new rule for legislation: If it takes more than 3 sentences to explain, it's too complicated. For four lines and more (e.g. healthcare) - People won't understand it. It's too speculative. It's too easy for rich people to manipulate. It's too expensive to administer. Voters are suspicious of anything that complicated - sounds like the back of their credit card invoices. Voters to Obama: Make it simple, stupid!

As a campaigner, the President seemed very committed to actions and principles. As President, he seems to stand for very little. He suggests compromising away principle even before encountering stiff opposition. It makes one wonder how committed to these things he really was.

It is the same tactic -- "No" to everything. Even the things that they had once said they wanted.

Looks like EPA's workload will be getting heavier. The courts have pushed the agency into the middle of this whether they wanted to be there or not. My guess is EPA was hoping Congress would sort everything out, but an even stronger GOP/Tea blockade will mean the air guys at EPA are in for a litigious future.

The federal government is over $13,000,000,000,000 in debt. I trust the EPA will be one of the first useless entities the new congress will cut.

A little known threat of massive, long-term, blackouts provides a so far unrecognized opportunity for bold leadership to tackle Global Warming.

The sun has begun a new 11 year sunspot cycle. Emissions have twice this year missed Earth. Had they hit our geomagnetic field, NASA suggests most of the eastern half of the nation might have lost electric power for weeks!

See: www.aesopinstitute.org for a few details and an outline of how unusually bold White House leadership can turn this threat, which will continue for the next decade, into a practical program of decentralized power.

With wise action to prevent catastrophe support might be found across the political spectrum. Who in the Republican party wants to be blamed for blackouts!

The surprising impact of such a program can generate inexpensive green energy based on breakthrough technologies now being born.

That can trigger a far more rapid economic recovery and millions of jobs.

Future cars and trucks can become power plants when parked, selling power generated by energy conversion systems that supersede oil. These vehicles may very well pay for themselves as investments.

They can also cost-effectively undercut the need for new coal and nuclear power plants.

Imagine the implications!

What it takes is careful evaluation by all concerned, followed by truly bold leadership.

This nation has the spirit and the talent to rise to the task.

Real effort can generate the enthusiasm that insures that the difficulties are overcome in time to make a real difference!

Aesop created fables that illuminated the fact that the world works in ways very different than the stories told in classrooms.

Most of the real breakthroughs are ridiculed when they first emerge. Eventually, those that are genuine gain traction.

Only radically new science can avoid pending catastrophes. Nobody is expected to believe any of it until claims are very well proven and independently replicated.

The flip-flopper in chief strikes again. The black John Kerry? He was before cap and trade before he was against it.

I'm not for or against cap and trade, what bothers me is the fact Obama has flip-flopped on virtually every issue he ever campaigned on. The guy simply cannot be trusted.
