Conan Goes To India In Hilarious New AmEx Commercial (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/08/10 12:02 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

Tonight finally marks the debut of Conan O'Brien's much-hyped new TBS talk show. But in addition to the generous promotional duties O'Brien has performed on behalf of the show, he also took the time to shoot a promotional spot as his new role as a spokesman for American Express.

The credit card company adds O'Brien to their accomplished roster of stars with whom they have teamed up, such as Martin Scorsese, Jerry Seinfeld and Tina Fey. AmEx also sponsored O'Brien's wildly successful "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television" tour last summer.

In the spot, O'Brien travels to Mumbai, India, to secure exactly the right fabric for a very special purpose. While there, he joins in the Indian way of life as only O'Brien can. Check out the extended commercial below.

OK, that was good. Much better than the "sexy car wash" trailer for his show. I guess AMEX has more money to lavish on the ads.

This is NOT Mumbai. This is rural India. Rajasthan to be precise, which is a desert state in the North West.

Too bad Conan is associated with AmEx. They are a horrible company.

Dang, I thought he was funny too. The nerve, deceiving us all these years. I feel used.

BTW, that place is Rajasthan, not Mumbai. Somewhat like showing SFO and stating that it is New York. Foreigners will still not be able to make out the difference but Americans will bristle at their ignorance..
Peace

You understand it is a comical commercial, and not a news documentary, don't you? You didn't? Well, lighten up, and get a life.

Hon, I get that you're a "super" huffypo user and all, and your defense is sweet, but the only mention of Mumbai is by the writer of the huffypo not the commercial, so no one is getting all bent out of shape about the comical commercial. The mistake made by a reporter working for an ostensible news site, well, a bit of accuracy is called for.

So calm down, and have chai. :-p

I am excited about Conan's new show, hopefully it can break away fully from the rated "G" offerings of the various Tonight Shows..

Ha Ha.. Great job Conan. I speak Hindi and must say he did a great job vocalizing. Great idea...Just thinking of him in India makes me laugh...He would literally stand out, red head, tall, fair skin etc. Looking forward to his show. Wish him all the best.
May the best one win (I am a fan of comedy, be it Leno or Letterman or Conan)
Expecting hate replies from Leno haters for equating Coco to Leno, but I stand my ground!!
Peace

The problem isn't with the commercial; it's cute enough. The problem is with HuffPo editors. They need to break out a dictionary and brush up on the definition of "hilarious". I actually watched it to confirm my previous suspicion they haven't a clue what it really means.
