Michelle Obama Buys New Bangles At New Delhi's National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 11/08/10 11:58 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

The First Couple spent Monday in New Delhi, where Michelle Obama stopped by the National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum. For the occasion, the First Lady donned a black shirt with a colorful Dries Van Noten skirt, a metallic belt to match her pumps and an armful of bangles that bought during her visit.

She also tried on a six-stranded, beaded necklace that we hope she brings home to wear stateside.

Take a look at Michelle's new purchases -- and scroll down for a bigger photo.

I love it! I love it! I sometimes not too sure about her style (sometimes I loooove it and sometimes not) but this time it's right on point! I'm sure we will see women wearing more of those.

Only Michelle could pull that off, I think. How glamorous! But I like that she showed reverence to the locals and her ensemble blends right in with the locale and the dress of those that live there.

I love how people around the world in their native attire are so vibrant, especially comparable to bland americans and europeans. bright colors everywhere. ESPECIALLY in india. one word: bollywood.

Is that outfit really a top, a`skirt, and a`belt? Or is it a dress with beadwork around the empire waistline?

Just askin...

Very pretty!

The belt looks similar to this one:

NOT that Mrs. O has to worry about multipurposing her accessories so that she isn't charged for an extra bag on the plane!!

Whatever we may think of her husband's success as President, Michelle Obama has nailed the roll of First Lady. She always looks interesting, relaxed, warm, and often, extremely attractive. She's done a lot for American designers - especially for those who are hyphenated Americans (Chinese-American, Indian-American). Most importantly, she always looks like she's really interested in what she is doing and is enjoying it. Kudos, Michelle.

Seeing how she mixes colors is like discovering a continent of fashion.

I like the outfit. I am a jeans and t-shirt person , but the way she puts colors together I have not a clue how to do.. To me her inner self always shines through..

I seen our First Lady on CNN dancing customary Indian dances with children. She was poised, and rather reserved, and didn't miss a step with the other dancers.

I do NOT like her hair pulled back like this. It looks so great when she has it styled. She has a stylist so I don't know why she keeps pulling it back like this. So unflattering.

In New Delhi, it's 8:07 am as I type. The humidity is 88%. Average humidity is 50%. Imagine the comments from posters if Michelle had her hair down while she's outdoors.

The humidity in D.C. is often higher. In the summer there are days when it's 100% humidity.

The First Lady is a striking looking woman. Tall and stately but this outfit is just not attractive and it detracts from her light and best features. Well, we all make mistakes in fashion even some who think they always look great. I have some photos of mine taken not so long ago where I thought at the time I was looking rather soigné and frankly I didn't look that great. More recently I have been advised by a particular salesperson on the best fit for my lifestyle and frame. We probably all need three way mirrors and an unbiased assessment of how we look.

I love the black top with that gorgeous skirt and belt. The bangles will look great with other outfits, and she's a good sport for putting them on where she bought them.

I bet they don't have three way mirrors and unbiased assessments at the White House...

Michelle looks striking and stunning...

yes, these are not expensive items-- but items have value beyond it's base-cost.

Best wishes to them on this trip.. and hope it's a win-win for all.

Like the color of the skirt but not sure why she wears those really big, pouffy skirts that seem to call attention to all of our hips!?
She looks like she is enjoying herself at least!

I think that's it--she just enjoys herself, and probably just feels comfy in those skirts.

Do you think possibly think that revealing a sense of style favored by the Host country might influence fashion choices?  American earned their title as "ugly Americans.

My God! This woman is beautiful! She is truly in the mold and image of Jackie O; refined, dignified and sensitive.

I am so very proud to have her as the nation's "First Lady" displaying her elegant demeanor and representing the USA.

Absolutely not one iota of similarity between a blood blood Southampton equestrian educated at the Sorbonne and a girl from the west side who became an Ivy League attorney and Hospital Administrator. None.

Including the wardrobes they each choose when on the exact same State visits as First Lady to India.

Perhaps more "similarity" than you imagine, wishfulslinking. It seems that that "blue blood Southampton equestrian" shares fairly recent African ancestry with the FLOTUS. One thing that's fairly common about so-called "blue blood" white Americans---the deeper the roots in America, the more the likelihood that they have African blood.

Jackie O is dead and gone and that particular mold is broken. Michelle is a beauty in her own right.
