Bird Strike

LOS ANGELES — The Federal Aviation Administration is blaming a bird collision for the emergency landing of a passenger plane at Los Angeles International Airport.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says a Horizon Air turboprop with 73 passengers landed safely Monday afternoon.

Gregor tells City New Service that the twin-engine plane was near Dodger Stadium, heading from LAX to Redding, when a bird struck the right wing and fuel tank.

Gregor says the pilot declared an emergency and took the plane down from 6,000 feet to a safe landing.
