Egelhoff admits her family hit such a financial low that, at the end of last year, she even borrowed money from Montag.

"The restaurant was struggling, and I was crying on the phone," Egelhoff recounts. "I fought it for so long, but finally, I said, 'Tax guys are on the way. It's $8,000.' Heidi very generously wired me a check that day. That kept the restaurant afloat for at least six months. It was so generous and helpful."

Egelhoff has now gone from owning a restaurant and making appearances on The Hills to cleaning houses for a living.

Huffington, how far you have fallen in such a short time. You are dead to me now.

What a horrible thing for the media to expose. I first heard this on Wendy Williams. It's one thing to talk about an adult celebrity's fate. Heidi is fair game. She signed up for the reality fame and the fall. But imagine being a child whose peers know that your once well-to-do family is so poor that you're on free lunch. I just don't see how this differs much from bullying gay youth. It's okay to make a poor kid's situation a headliner now? Pathetic.

This kid and others like him or her should hold thier heads high, give a high five and not let anyone demean them. Its not a crime to be poor, or admit thier families are struggling. Millions of kids just like them are in the same boat. The crime is that Bush and Cheney, Rice, Rove, Blunt, allowed our country to go broke from thier fake war. They allowed victims of Katrina to be demeaned by a cold fish named Barbara who will never know what its like to go hungry or lose everything. Congress should be made to suffer, be recalled and apologize to these kids for letting them fall between the cracks. Cutting funding for medicaide, school programs is unfathomable. I would love to tell that little boy there are many of us who see him as a hero. Its those who choose to mock or use him for finanical gains, personal gratifiication that are the losers.

I'm living a life of quiet desperation. That's it.

Perhaps the mother's the one who brought this to the public in an attempt to get money from her daughter.

Well, she gets paid for the People article. So she's making some money that way. I don't blame her if times are that hard.

I don't see any reason why this should be published.

Heidi Montag may be a public figure, but this kid isn't.

Shame on you!

Heidi still looks like a horse. She sure wasted her money on plastic surgery.

Huffington Post....

....you have now offically become a tabloid entity no better than the likes of the now defunct Weekly World News, the one time home of the fictional Bat Boy.

Where once I used to have respect for this site, now, between the new "HuffPo Divorce" section and drivel such as this, the "It's Over" dumb stuff about people most don't even have a clue about, all the drivel about the Palins, especially the whole DWTS/Bristol thing, and so much more...

...now, this site is used strictly for my amusement and venting on Repulicans.

You're Doin' A Heckuva Job, Huffy!

I agree with the rest of y'all..leave this kid alone. He has no business being brought into the 8th circle of hell that is reserved for Heidi..He didnt do anything to deserve this smear campaign..
02:31 PM on 11/10/2010
I agree but remember there are lots and lots of people that are on food stamps now. There is no shame people must help their families. I would tell people to get over it. Just thank god you aren't in that place right now because who knows 2 or 4 months from now it could be you or me god forbid.
