A Walk Through Jakarta (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 11/09/10 04:05 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

When President Obama landed in Indonesia's capital Jakarta on Tuesday, it was more than just a state visit; he was returning to a former childhood home. Obama spent four years in Jakarta as a child.

Of course, the city has changed since then. Jakarta today is a thriving metropolis, and the 12th most populous city in the world. We put together some pictures of famous Jakarta landmarks and street life, so you, too, can get a small flavor of this diverse, exciting city.

Special thanks to Jakarta native Moch N. Kurniawan for his beautiful photographs!

Thanks, now I can take Jakarta off my list of places to see. Not worth the effort to get there.
