Jon doesn't think Bush was a war criminal, except maybe in a "technical" sense, and to bring that up is incendiary and a conversation stopper.
Painful as it may be, the U.S. public needs to hear that conversation. It should be done on all cable and broadcast channels. It should be cool, calm, and -- yes -- technical.

I thought it was a good interview. It was unfortunate Jon was sick, but it was nice watching two smart people have a conversation and be able to respectfully disagree with each other with no yelling. Rachel said the entire interview would be posted on her blog today so I'll have to check it out tonight.

I was disappointed in the interview. Maybe it was because Stewart was sick. I don't know what I expected but I didn't get it. I thought many of his arguments were weak. Pol Pot was a war criminal - he killed thousands. But Bush broke our laws, lied to us, and destroyed our national reputation, plus killed thousands in his fake war. Fox tries to pretend they are ideological but they are in fact working for the right and controlling the Republican message. Stewart may think he is an outside observer, presenting fake news. He does in fact have enough credibility that many, rightly or wrongly, say they get all their news from him.

It does feel like some people like Stewart for how liberal he is, rather than how intellectually rigorous and honest he is. There's a reason why Stewart has a superior show to Ed Schlutz and Dylan Ratigan, and it isn't because he's more liberal.

He's tired and sick in this interview btw. A stomach bug will do that to you. So give him a break if he's long winded or not as coherent.

Great give and take conversation from two of my favorite people in the media.

Stewart brought to light ideas that had never occurred to me and I suspect even Maddow was taken back you Jon's position on his role as an outside observer and commentator rather than on who has 'skin in the game'. I can now understand why Stewart feels he cannot participate directly and still maintain his position as a honest broker of opinion.

Its the kind of TV you seldom see outside of Charlie Rose and I doubt you will see again for a very long time. It was the kind of interview that demands more intellectual work than the average person is willing to expend to keep up with.

And not only that, but this persistent thin-skinned defense of that rally -- from the distance seemed lame and juvenile -- needs
to take a breather. All this, from the angry fan.

I have been a long time fan of Stewart but I'm beginning to sour on him. His conversation and interview questions are long
winded, aimless, and full of double-talk. Please explain to me what ideological but not partisan means and George Bush may
technically be a war criminal but....don't mention that in a conversation. And Jerry Seinfeld is a kindred spirit -- would
Stewart like to host the Marriage Ref. I think that head concussions that Stewart had playing soccer in college may now be
taking their toll.

We all know that Colbert plays a faux republican so I guess Steward plays a faux liberal, his defense of faux news turned my stomach.

Stewart said "Fox is ideological but not political......."

Twice. Like he really believes it.

Really?

Well, what he said is that they're not partisan, but that they are ideological. Which I took to mean that they're not necessarily Republican, but they're Conservative. I don't know if I agree with that either, but it's a fair statement. He certainly didn't defend Faux.

This is an AMAZING interview! Two people whom I admire tremendously are on TV having a quiet, rational, fascinating discussion - pinch me, am I dreaming??

Actually, Stewart is fairly brilliant during the interview. His analysis of how Faux News gets away with what they do was pretty spot on.

I'm still watching the interview-west coast, I get the feeling that you've already seen the whole thing. I agree he did let Bush off too easy though, I just saw that part.

Maddow brought me back around. Maddow has changed her tune in the last couple of months. She is not now engaging in fairly constant Democrat bashing. I was ready to give up on the lgbtt community because of some lgbt attack posters here who don't distinguish between friend or foe. But, Maddow is bringing me back around. One thing, I wish the media would give bloggers a heads up when they use our...material! Just sayin'
