Science Proves '30 Rock' Funnier Than 'S#*! My Dad Says' (INFOGRAPHIC)

First Posted: 11/09/10 03:40 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

After being dumbfounded that CBS' "S#*! My Dad Says" has been beating NBC's "30 Rock" in the ratings week after week (despite most critics preferring "30 Rock") Splitsider's Erik Voss set out to prove (with science!) that "30 Rock" is undoubtedly the superior show.

With an impressive quantitative breakdown of both show's story lines, cultural references, minutes of laugh track and more, Voss boils it all down to this handy infographic. What do you think? Does this change your opinion or just reaffirm what you already knew? Let us know in the comments! (Via Splitsider)

I couldnt make it thru the first episode of #*$% my dad says. I have yet to miss an episode of 30 Rock. I usually rewatch them on HULU when nothing else is on.

there is no comparison between the two.

I love them both. I DVR one and watch the other. Bill and Tina can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.

We don't need science to prove that 30 Rock is better!!

I gave "S#*!" a watch and it was S#*!. I like Shatner but this is a crappy show. 30 Rock on the other hand is the best comedy on the air right now. I really appreciate that NBC continues their strength year after year with their Thurs nite comedies.

S#*! My Dad Says doesn't have Tina Fey or Liz Lemon flashbacks:

This just re-affirms my theory that a lot of old people watch TV and most of them watch CBS. I think it has something to do that its usually the first channel when you turn your TV on and those fandangled remotes are just too complicated. It's the only way to explain the ratings for 2 and half men.
11:21 AM on 11/10/2010
This article should be called, Math proves S#*! My Dad Says is funnier...'cause the ratings don't lie.

You know why CBS is so hot? Because they will do anything to acquire programming, including stealing. $#*! My Dad Says was ripped-off. See the proof at www.bleepcbssays.blogspot.com

As a fan of the show I found your claim intriguing so I checked out your blog for more information. I'm glad I did. You have no claim at all and you're wasting your time. You're saying if you pitched a network a bad Western and they passed on it for a good Western you would have a claim because they did a Western. It's ludacris. What's next for you, a lawsuit against James Cameron because you had an idea about blue hued aliens? Silly.
11:28 AM on 11/12/2010
Your obvious lack of taste notwithstanding (the show as is sucks; a low-brow comedy in all its glory, a sentiment echoed over and over again by TV writers all across the country), your logic is unbelievably flawed. Westerns and the concept of 'blue-hued aliens' have been around for a long time. Find me a network that aired a Twitter-based sit-com (or as I called TWITS when I pitched CBS, the country's first Twit-com) that existed before I went to CBS with the pitch. You can't do it. And do you know why? BECAUSE THERE IS NONE.

We're not dealing with established genres such as westerns or science fiction, where stories and the way they're told might differ. Here we are dealing with a completely new genre, a hybrid of platforms and TV genre.

If you don't find it the least bit troubling that the first network to come forth with a Twitter-based sit-com - a genre heretofore never done by ANY broadcast or cable network - is the same network that was pitched this groundbreaking format by an independent writer nine months before it announced its pick-up of Twitter-based Shit My Dad Says, there's a deed to a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to talk to you about.

This is pompous. You can't quantify funny. Different things make different people laugh, and sometimes numbers of jokes or words don't do it.

Well duh. That's why this article is in the comedy section. It'd be the same thing if someone wanted to scientifically prove that Chicago style pizza is better than New York style. There's no science here. It's just a fun diversion.

30 rocks better, but s#*! my dad says is pretty funny.

30 Rock is challenging and intelegently funny. And clearly NOT for everyone. There are SO many Wantwits and Dullards out there who need to keep it simple hence "My Dad" AND Sarah Palin....This country is in so much decline....

I love 30 Rock but it can seem elitist at times (a lot of in-jokes) and if you are a typical fan then it must be aimed at your sort because you seem like a bit of a snob. I love both shows and don't think it is a sign of anything other than people find different things funny.

This fails because it forgets to address one important thing.
$!@% My Dad Says has 1 William Shatner, 30 Rock has 0.
