It's easy to have your head turned by the famous, glamorous wine regions: Sure, Napa's great, and Bordeaux can't be beat. But some of the most soulful places in the world of wine are often passed over or pigeonholed based on factors like geography and reputation.

Some of these regions are just taking root while others are long-established, but a visit to any of ShermansTravel.com's top 10 wine regions worth a second look could forever change your idea of what to drink with dinner - not to mention what it's like to visit a winery (no limos in sight).

Alsace, France

First impression Everybody has heard of France’s Alsace region, but too few people outside the area actually drink the wines.

Second look The stellar whites from this lovely area bordering Germany – mainly gewürztraminers, rieslings, and pinot gris – are among the most sophisticated and food-friendly on the planet. They’re second to none with spicy Asian dishes because of the natural aromatics in the grapes as well as the high acid levels that develop in a chilly climate.

I rarely drink wine and know nothing about it other than it comes in shades of reds and white.

Yet it chaps my hinney when HP puts up their wine tour articles and leaves out my Moldova.

A country that has wine as a major factor in their economy, as well as an important part of the culture from birth through death. The first and third largest cellars are located in the country. Each village produces their wine and they compete for the best district, then national, wine each year. There are two major international wine festivals during the year; one closing off the main area of town for a week.

Wine tours are dirt cheap, plus you get to see an interesting area of the world and some delightfully beautiful countryside.

If you email HP, they might add your choice.

You can also submit your own photos and captions of areas you know and love, by clicking the link on the page that says, "Add A Slide". If Moldova has a "Wine Ministry" or such, they could be encouraged to contact HuffPo, and/or, post as stated above. That said, wine grapes are grown all over the world, from China, to Canada, to Iran. HP couldn't possibly cover all of them in one little article.
