As winter nears and the travel bug hits you, sometimes picking one destination to go can be a bit tough. Edinburgh is a great wintertime destination thanks to its stark architecture, but you might feel the need to escape the chilly city and head to different landscapes.

Our friends at CheapOAir put together a list of 5 great side trips from Edinburgh.

Loch Ness
1 of 6
At 150 miles from Edinburgh, Loch Ness is just about doable in a day trip but the long drive will be worth it – for the drive through the Highlands as well as anything else. Even if you don’t catch a glimpse of the monster, the loch is still a beautiful place, so it’s well worth the journey. Just remember to keep your camera on standby in case Nessie makes an appearance!

The Borders, a mere 30 miles drive south, well worth seeing, and that's where I come from.

So, my comment was removed, this is ludicrous, I am from Fife, and I mentioned the one destination there. it is obvious to me that whichever "moderator" removed my comment has a PERSONAL dislike of me, that is unacceptable behaviour from someone who is supposed to MODERATE not CENSOR FOR REASONS OF PERSONAL DISLIKE ! Your anonymity grants you the power to censor without any recrimination, that is WRONG !

worldcitizen101 ---- It was not that I suggested anywhere, I commented on the Deep-Sea-World centre in Fife, that is situated next to a place called North Queensferry, very near my birthplace, and my comment was removed, presumably because the moderator who dealt with it has some personal dislike of me. it is not the first time a completely innocent comment of mine has been removed, although it has not happened for a while. it is extremely annoying when it does happen though because, firstly there is no good reason, and secondly because there is no mechanism for challenging the decision except by complaining in a subsequent comment, as I have done.
