Leary

Denis Leary is at it again, this time in his own book trailer for "Suck On This Year." He says people only pretend to read Franzen and other things that might pull your chain. Let us know in the poll what you think of it.

Quick Poll

Will this trailer get you to buy the book?

Definitely!

No way

I thought this was a promo for "Rescue Me," not a book.

The Barrier Book2Film Trailer is still one of the best book trailers!

That's alright, Mr. Leary

People have been pretending that you're funny for years

So, Denis Leary's selling pitch for his new book "Suck On This Year" is that other books have too many pages. It's nice to know that somebody out there has the guts to market their book specifically to lazy people and functional illiterates. As far as his assertion that most people only pretend to read Jonathan Franzen, I guess that could be true. After all, most people only pretend to think Denis Leary is funny. I guess it worked out well for both of their careers.

Denis Leary is not even a tiny bit funny.

I am embarassed to say, but who is Franzen? I have seen his books, but the covers never really got me to want to read the dust jacket, much less the book.

I don't consider myself to be a big Denis Leary fan, but I do find him fascinating. He is the most ADHD adult I've ever seen.

It is interesting to me that Franzen has become such a polarizing figure. If you like him, great -- enjoy his books. If you don't like him, great -- you aren't smarter than the people who do, just go find something else to read.

You realize this is the Books section right?
Most of us here really like books and they do make great gifts.
More people should read books.
You on the other hand should head back towards the entertainment section of HuffPost.

I do realize that. I love books, I was just trying to make the point that everyone is out there pushing their books all over the place right now.I do read books all the time and I NEVER go to the B.S. on the entertainment section of this site. Have a great day.

I thought the Denis Leary - Bill Hicks controversygate was put to rest.

Amen Denis!

It only takes 12 min because we have heard all the jokes before, from Bill Hicks. Leary sucks.

Too bad Bill Hicks passed too soon.

I love Denis Leary, thought about buying the Franzen book but maybe I should stick with comedy pamphlets instead. My blog has funny items about quitting my job and moving to Costa Rica. I think I can give Franzen a run for his money.

I do agree with him on this point. Franzen is insufferable and confoundingly over rated. I hated The Corrections to the point where I just stopped reading it. After all the fuss over his new book, I said, "Ok, maybe I was being hasty"amd gave it a second try. Nope. Still self indulgent, unappealing drivel. Sorry. Franzen is a hack.

On his blog, Canadian author R. Scott Bakker has made a couple of comments in which he suggests that a forthcoming blog post will be "Jonathan Franzen and the literature of complacency". I would love to read that post.

Could not disagree with you more... but you read, so therefore all is good.. I happen to think he is brilliant... We are all entitled to our own tastes in literature... thank goodness...

I can agree that taste is subjective. Viva le differance! If we all agreed on everything it would be a drab world indeed.
