Ping Twitter

Avid Twitter users should prepare for a potential onslaught of musical tweets after Apple's social network Ping and Twitter announced a partnership today.

Twitter announced in its blog:

Starting today Ping, iTunes' new social network for music, and Twitter are making it even easier for people to share music discoveries with their friends by putting Ping activity, song previews and links to purchase and download music from the iTunes Store right in their Tweets on Twitter.com.

Twitter users can sync their account to Ping within iTunes and song previews and links to purchase music will appear in the right panel of Twitter's relatively new website design.

TheNextWeb notes that "this announcement could make a big difference" in terms of Ping adoption.

Ping was initially released with Facebook Connect integration, which mysteriously disappeared not long after and led to some considerable attention. Twitter seems to be taking advantage of that mishap in September with a partnership of its own.

When Ping came out, more than a million users signed up in less than 48 hours.

"Ping"?  Isn't that the network command used to determine if a node is active on the network?

Or, wait, that's the name of Microsoft's search engine...

Oh, wait, that's "Bing".  The names just seem too similar.  I'm surprised nobody's flung any lawsuits yet in our delicious, corportized world...
