Brett Favre Says He Will Not Play In 2011

Brett Favre Retiring Next Season

First Posted: 11/12/10 09:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

In an interview on Thursday night with former NFL coach Steve Mariucci on the NFL Network, Brett Favre reportedly said he will not return to play in 2011.

When asked if he would be back next season, Favre was said to have shook his head and said, "No."

The entire interview will air on Sunday during the network's NFL GameDay Morning pregame show.

The Minnesota Vikings are 3-5 this season and they play the division rival Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Favre has had a rough season, battling injuries and being criticized over allegations that he sent racy voicemails and naked pictures to Jenn Sterger in 2008, while he played for the New York Jets and she was a hostess for the team.

The 41-year-old quarterback reportedly admitted leaving voicemails, but denied sending naked photos.

Let's hope when he leaves next year he will take the Childish Childress with him. Vikings fans would very much appreciate that I am sure.

Farve suck. Fire him, What advantage is there to keeping him for any reason? He's injured and throws 3 interceptions a fumbles once a game.

He should retire now. How many more 3 pick games can he have? Why does he refuse to utilize his best player on the team-Adrian Peterson?

Unless of course Childress send another plane down to Ole Miss with a suitcase full of money, ......but the entire Viking team has to escort him back to Minnesota this time.

Childress needs to go, he has lost all credibilty to the fans and probably most of the players.

He's not playing this season.
He is just going through the motions.
Clumsy, abrupt, capable.
The pooch is hiding under the stands; very much in danger with Favre bumbling along.

He didn't want to come back this year and I'm guessing Chilly won't send players to talk him into coming back next year, so this should be the end of his career.

The 25 million was for both last year and this year. His cap number this year is 13 million.

Meanwhile, in other news, Lucy pulled the football away as Charlie Brown was attempting to kick it.

I don't think the question should be if Favre is going to come back, but the question if there will be any team desparate in the league to sign him again.

No, even last season the only team that wanted him was Minnesota.

I don't understand using the word "reportedly" in this story. He said it. I heard him say it. Perhaps he "reportedly" means it. However, he did not "reportedly" say it.

I have said this for a few years now when it comes to Farve and retirement. I will believe it come September and he is not playing.

Given his recent history, I doubt he means this.  At least as far as the NFL is concerned.  I have no doubt that he does not want to play for Brad Childress again.  This was just a bad idea.  You have an aging gunslinger being courted by an ultra-conservative offense head coach.  Just never could work unless they won more than they lost.  If another team woos him or Childress gets fired, he'll be back.

Favre has not choice on where he goes. Minnesota is the only NFL team that wants him. He said that last season on Joe Buck Live on HBO.
