Cast Of 'Community' Strips Down To Their Underwear (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/12/10 11:43 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

We loved last night's episode of "Community." It utilized the classic sitcom device of stranding the characters into an enclosed location for the entire show (known as a "bottle show"), allowing the gang to play off each other in a concentrated way that lends itself to both humor and character development.

In this case, the study group was trapped in the room because Annie (Alison Brie) was in search of a lost pen, and prevented anyone from leaving the room until they had found it, other plans notwithstanding -- specifically a date with "Gwynnifer" for Jeff (Joel McHale) and a puppy parade for Troy and Abed (Donald Glover and Danny Pudi).

It was a rare television episode that balanced wit and emotion in equal measure. But also, the characters stripped down to their underwear at one point while looking for the pen, Abed's idea being that it will catch anyone who may be keeping it on their person. Check out the clip below to see the cast in their unmentionables.

Community is a lot better than most stuff on TV right now, not a must see through.

This is one of my favorite comedies on right now. I hope NBC doesn't cancel it, I know it's struggling in the ratings; while the much less funny Outsourced seems to be doing very well. I can't begin to fathom why that is.

Haters gonna hate. Great episode. One of the best shows on tv.

Yah, I agree. Each show rarely disappoints.

That was an awesome bottle episode. I hope they show the culprit of the stolen pen a future episode.

They showed the pen thief! It was at the very end of the episode.

This show is funny and smart if you know what a bottle episode is and know that they're satirizing its conventions.

I really like this show, but I get tired of having to explain why its funny.

Takes me back to the good old Arrested Development days. That one was even tougher to try and explain to anyone who didn't already get it.

Really? Ok, what's your idea of funny? You look like a Hee Haw and Larry the Cable guy fan. Say something you think is funny and let the rest of us decide if you're just a d-bag.

I'd pay to see Joel McHale in his underwear.

He's been in underwear several times on this show.

Thanks. Now I no longer need to worry about what I might be missing while watching The Big Bang Theory.

Wow.. You're still watching The Big Bang Theory? How sad... that show was funny for about 5 episodes.

Two different approaches, though: Community tends to be more absurdist than Big Bang Theory.

Also, Community doesn't need a laugh track :)

It's filmed in front of a studio audience. You can get tickets to a taping.

That is my litmus test for sitcoms.

If there is a laugh-track (like the one in Big Bang), then its a no-go for me.

If the show was on HBO, they would have done cavity searches.

One of the other clips is better. They refer to "using the Constitution as a blanket," dis the Patriot Act, and use the phrase "I got Guantanamoed!"
