JooJoo Tablet Discontinued

Joojoo

SEATTLE — A tablet computer that got a controversial start last year is being discontinued.

JooJoo won't be updated with new software that its maker, Fusion Garage, says it is producing.

Fusion Garage plans to have devices with different screen sizes on the market in 2011. The new software will be based on Google Inc.'s Android system.

High-profile technology blogger Michael Arrington of TechCrunch sued Fusion Garage in late 2009 after the implosion of a joint effort between the two companies to build the CrunchPad, a cheap tablet for Web surfing. Fusion Garage announced it would sell the device under a new name, without Arrington's involvement.

The 12.1-inch JooJoo went on sale in February for $500. Fusion Garage, based in Singapore, won't say how many were sold.

The federal lawsuit is ongoing.

I have never heard of this company/product before. No wonder it is not making an impact on the market.

The IPAD rules!!! Think about the next version, it will be awesome. I am not going to stray anymore from Apple. I went out thinking the Galaxy Tab was serious competition it is not, screen is too small and it is heavy. The Kno is dead in the water. Students do not like IPADS for books. They are trying to mess up Goggle TV the next super product but they will fail.

"The moment the lawsuit came, this product was dead on arrival."

No tablet computer will ever be able to compete with the iPad until they overcome the technological hurdle of replicating that sense of self-satisfied smugness that Apple products give hipsters.

Another victim for the IPAD. Microsoft gave up on the Courier. I purchased a Galaxy Tab but returned it a day later, a piece of junk, screen is too small and blurry, and controls are bad. This product will crash and burn. Jobs was right.

The public split with TechCrunch founder had more to do with it. iPad is a $500'ish device whereas the CrunchPad was to be $100'ish (if memory serves). Through the months leading up to the release Mike kept us updated. At the last possible moment Fusion Garage dumped Mike from the project that he created and raised the price to $500.

iPad had nothing with Fusion Garage failure. No they were able to do that all by themselves.

Macewan beat me to my answer, this has NOTHING to do with the iPad, if the CrunchPad had come out as Arrington initially had thought of it, it would have done quite well for itself. Fusion Garage thought they were smarter though. *shakes head*

I think you've hit that nail on the head! From the time they dealt Arrington out of "the deal" their karma was in trouble. I'd say fold the tents, Fusion. It's all over but the lawsuits.

Yeah, they won't say how many was sold because it's too embarrassing. I like the idea of blowing it up. Someone needs to some better research on the competition. mainstreethost.com

Another iDevice 'killer' bites the dust? Shocker, hahaha!

Last I heard they sold less than a thousand units.

CEO was very vicious in his attacks on other companies, especially Apple, Inc. Interesting he wants to use Android on future devices, as he had some choice words for Google, as well.

Actually it more of an open sourced project where Mike said he wanted to build cheap tablet for surfing. There were numerous people who wanted to help and would of had this company in Singapore not screwed things up. If someone were to give me a product by Fusion Garage I would do a youtube video of me blowing the thing up in some farmers field.
