looks like a cast off from Queen Elizabeth. All she needs is a big ol' hat. Actually, that's a pretty good idea, big hat and long veil.

They should have bled profusely from reading anything by Ayn Rand. The author of Twilight is a better writer than that idiot skeleton, Rand.

Spoken like a good prgressive, concerned for others they deem less fortunate. Unfortunately (?), I'm doing just fine. Thanks for the good wishes though! I'm sure your karma meter can tell the difference between your sarcasm and mine.

What's up HP?
I've never seen so many messages deleted on one article, including one that I made. When it was posted that I had a reply I couldn't find my post or the reply.
Surely, there have been more controversial comments made on other pages, and the moderators didn't do as much deletion.
Why this article?
....just wonderin'

They don't particularly like all the "fat black ho" comments. Maybe consider being a bit less obnoxious.

She is Jackie O with a Harvard degree!! Gotta love that! She is a prime example that women can be extremely intelligent, classy, sophisticated, beautiful... The list goes on and on! lol You go Mrs. Obama!!

I think it's about time this piece was removed. It's being infiltrated by the haters who want to twist facts and use the fact that Mrs. Obama respectfully wore a head scarf as many other first ladies have before her because it is the custom not because she is a secret Muslim along with her husband. Others a la fox noise are using this post to complain about the cost of her clothing while the economy is in ruins. What nonsense. Her money that she spends on her clothes will not save the economy and no other first lady wore clothes from Walmart in bad times. Most wore far more expensive clothes.

This article rather than being used to express opinion on her clothing style and how she looks has turned into a twisted convoluted inappropriate expression of hate, racism and disrespect for the office of the Presidency and the First Lady because many Americans cannot accept that we have a black President and First Lady. Just look at how many posts have been deleted. It's time to get this off of HP. It's been on long enough....yes we all know that Mrs. Obama respectfully wore a head scarf as any other respectful person in her position would do and has been done in the past. Enough already! REMOVE THIS ARTICLE.

Actually, it would have been better if this thread is kept in circulation. There are posters who still don't understand that covering the head is required before entering the grand mosque, and we should make them understand it. By removing the thread, these posters remain ignorant.

I remember reading that it was planned for them to visit a big, important temple in India, but that was scratched when it became clear that men had to cover their heads! Imagine the outcry if they had visited that temple!

The public everywhere expects to see the wives of leaders to be well, very well, dressed, so it follows that their clothes are more expensive than the masses. I don't know why some posters don't understand that either and criticize the cost of MO's clothing.

Michele Obama is a person and woman in her own right. I admire her. Not for what she wears but for her kind heart and intelligence. When "folks" have to cut her down for what she wears or what "they" think she looks like, that tells more about those who criticize than anything about Mrs. Obama. Catty ignorant teenage girls love to mock others in order to make themselves feel better. It's sad for them and worthy only of being ignored (or deleted).

I love Michelle Obama but her clothes are just plain awful. Half the time they don't fit, bizarre colors thrown together as though she dressed in the dark. I know it's fun to have a FL who doesn't wear little two-piece suits all the time, but this woman definitely needs a stylist. That black dress with the pink sweater looks like something you'd find at Goodwill. The worst is the flowered skirt with the JCrew lace top and the flower pin. Yikes!

I think it is difficult to fit her figure. She is very short from the shoulders to the waist and very long from the waist down. I don't believe her designers/dressers/Michelle (herself) take this into consideration. Some of her clothes look good and other outfits look downright awful. She can look good all the time with a little work. People like Jackie Kennedy and the Duchess of Windsor understood their problem areas and made sure they didn't show. I would love to see her look the best she can all the time.
01:04 PM on 11/15/2010
So true about her figure and we all have these issues. But a good designer/stylist/dresser/fitter can overcome any of these issues. That is why there are times she looks incredible in what she is wearing. That also means she can look that way all of the time with the correct staff and advice.
02:16 PM on 11/15/2010
Fitting her should not be a problem. There are tape measures, sewing machines and seamstresses. When I buy something and it doesn't fit I take it to the tailor to be fixed.

I must admit the boyz had me spewing coffee with this "tribute". I also checked out another site they linked to which was very crude, but dang...soooo funny.

I don't know why Mrs. Obama dresses as she does. Really bad. Very funny the media is kind of quieting down about the "style icon" thing. That chartreuse get up...My God! Is this a joke? Looks like polyester p.j.'s from Walmart that are way to long.

Woman needs a stylest. ASAP.

@dbl48.. 'real name'? No?.....I am a black woman who looks very much like Michelle Obama. During the campaign one of my nephews commented to me exactly this: "Michelle Obama reminds me of you." I too am an intelligent, beautiful, tall, black woman who when I look at Michelle Obama, I see myself. As far as her body type...guess what, not unlike my own. Racist...far from it. If you read my posts you will note that I comment only on the choice of clothing that I feel does not match her magnificence. I personally want to see Michelle Obama rock an outfit that defies criticism by ANY other than those who would be truly exposed as 'haters'. Am I proud and pleased to see the beautiful family that the Obama's represent with or without the presidency? Absolutely! When I see Mrs. Obama, I see the same color (exactlly) I see when I look into the mirror. Same hair texture, same height, same long legs....I know that I am a beautiful black woman, before I ever saw a picture of Michelle Obama. I think Mrs Obama is one of the best. Her clothing choices, not so much. Why does she have to be perfect to you? She's good enough in my book. Politics are not my thing....period. So I have no political agenda to promote or defend.. simply wanted to comment on the clothing worn by a woman who looks a lot like me!
07:17 AM on 11/15/2010

db148 called me racist etc. for the past few days unaware that I identify with Michelle Obama, first, as a tall woman, second as a wife and mother, last and least as a black woman...db148 had no idea of my race because I felt it had nothing to do with my opinion of Mrs. Obama's clothing choices. He challenged me to come out in the open and tell the truth about myself.....sorry anyone else has to see the comment....really.

Should Christian women be expected to don Muslim garb? Isn't it a bit patronizing? I would like to know what Muslims abroad think.

It's a sign of respect, not patronizing. Plus, when visiting religious sites, there is a dress code. For example, in Rome, women's shoulders may not be bare when entering a church. That's not patronizing, that's respect.
01:50 PM on 11/14/2010
She was not forced to wear a scarf, she chose to do so because she is a respectful person. That is what is wrong with this world. People see the smallest jester as a sign of giving in. It is time to get over our xenophobia and show respect and consideration to each other regardless of our race, gender, or religion. Besides, all of the sudden the Obamas are Christian, or is it because the truth is now convenient for you?

You certainly have assumed a lot from my question. I did not suggest she was forced nor imply she was not respectful. I am not xenophobic and I did not suddenly discover the Obamas were Christian. I knew that before I knocked on over three hundred doors during his campaign.
I saw an episode of Globe Trekker on PBS yesterday where a Syrian shop keeper volunteered that it was not necessary for non-Muslim women to wear scarves and such, that in fact he wished tourists realized that Syria was a modern country and it's citizens were aware and accepting of the way other cultures dress.
I was interested in what other Muslims abroad had to say.
You need to chill.
