First Posted: 11/13/10 04:11 PM ET Updated: 10/05/11 06:07 AM ET

Acclaimed Chef Thomas Keller appeared on CBS' Early Show Friday morning with host Harry Smith (long recovered from his Katie Lee-inflicted mandolin accident) to demonstrate a 'killer' holiday brunch menu that's short on effort but big on delivery: his famous buttermilk biscuits with perfectly poached eggs.

Watch Keller cook the dishes below, and as a bonus, learn how to perfectly poach an egg, Thomas Keller-style. The recipes for the biscuits and the eggs, along with Keller's plum Zinfandel jam and scallion potato cakes are all available here.

yum, might make that for dinner for myself, with maybe a few slices of extra thick bacon.

Easy soup recipe.  Supposedly John F. Kennedy and J. Edgar Hoover both had the same favorite soup, called technically "puree mongole" and dating back centuries.

It's pretty easy to make, however, using canned soups:

1 can split pea soup
1 can tomato soup
1 can milk
1 can water
Season to taste.  Some use curry powder, which I like, and other folks use other spices.

Some start from scratch and use peas, tomatoes, cream, and puree everything in a blender.

Some people also put in some chopped carrots, onions, sherry wine, and other ingredients.  I suppose one can add anything one likes!  However, just the quick canned-soup method works fine.

Mix, heat up, and enjoy.  Makes an unusual holiday dish.

I've never made homemade biscuits. He makes it look so simple, but I've had many a "mealy" biscuit so it can't be that easy. I'm going to have to try all of these recipes. The tip about cooking the poached eggs ahead of time and then warming them quickly in hot water is something I had never thought about but will have to do in the future.

Like a lot of " simple" food biscuits can be trickey, the trick is to not overwork the dough. If you notice when he dumped it on thr board the dough was very loose and he only kneeded it a few time times. Overworking the flour and liquid avtivates the gluton which makes the dough " tough". It took me years as a professionsl to master biscuits

Biscuits are actually pretty easy once you've tried a recipe 2-3 times. Just don't knead them too much.

It looks easy, but think about it. How many people have the skill to make the biscuit dough WHILE the eggs are poaching. That's a pro.

It helps that everything was measured out before hand and he had another bowl of dough waiting to put the buttermilk inside it... there is more to it than what you see, they only have so much time to play with.

NO, no, no it is the easiest thing to make. Butter, baking soda, baking powder, flour and buttermilk. The only thing you can do wrong is over kneed it.
