HATTIESBURG, Miss. — A spokeswoman says three University of Southern Mississippi athletes have been injured off campus, and police say three people are in critical condition after being shot at a club.
However, neither spokeswoman Beth Taylor nor police would say whether the three people shot were the athletes.
Taylor would not say how the athletes were hurt or provide more details about the incident. Taylor would not identify the students but says the school will hold a news conference at 1:30 p.m. CST.
Hattiesburg Police Sgt. Allen Murray says three people were shot outside of Remington's Hunt Club early Sunday morning, but he would not identify them or say whether those people were students at the university.
Murray says the three are in critical condition.
Club officials told The Hattiesburg American in October that they typically have 20 security staffers on duty on weekends, when crowds can swell to as many as 1,000.
The club's website – – shows numerous photos of scantily clad women at the club, many of which appear to be from bikini and dance contests. The interior is sprawling, with dining tables, pool tables and a stage. http://www.huntorbehunted.com
