Arcade Fire Fights Evil With Dancing In 'SNL' Digital Short (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/14/10 04:28 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

This week's "SNL" digital short utilized musical guest Arcade Fire to produce another classic music video with Andy Samberg. When Samberg's model UN team gets invited to give a presentation on world history to the General Assembly, they perform a rap song instead called "What was that?" about all the world's human atrocities. Arcade Fire storms the U.N. to help out, resulting in an out of control, shirt-ripping dance party all being broadcast on MSNBC.

I love that SNL did a parody about Model UN! Although the General Assembly Hall doesn't look like that...http://bestdelegate.com

I've loved Arcade Fire's last two albums, but apparently I had never seen them in person until the SNL performance. And while they held their own on SNL's notoriously poor sound stage, I couldn't get over how much the lead singer looked like a serial killer. I mean, B-movie neo-nazi serial killer. No wonder their new Spike Jonze video doesn't show the band performing.

Arcade Fire is not alone on the serial killer front, either:

Effing brilliant band. Their song "Rococo" is probably one of the most subtle and scathing critiques of hipster culture ever produced. They're AWESOME live, too. Love them.

but yeah... the skit was terrible.

Eh, could have been funnier. Arcade Fire is still the coolest band in the world, though.

This sure wasn't the same quality as "wake up".

The less I compared it with Funeral and Neon Bible-the more I liked it. It's not a masterpiece but it's wayyyyy better than all of the slop played on the radio.
They're probably my all time favorite band : )

Actually, they're one the few bands who don't seem all that too pretentious to me. I mean from what I've seen with some other bands and musicians, they don't seem the type to just keep up with trends or have their image of materialism plaster all over the place. I saw them at Berkeley last month, I just wished that they didn't end even though they played long enough for the performance. Their performance live are just awesome..I just love their combination of classical instruments into rock! :P

They have three classically trained performers in their touring group, including Mrs. Butler. Their musicality really shows onstage.

The fact that they donated $1 million to Haiti relief looks good on them as well.

Sure, Regine's parents came from there, but so what?

I regret I have but one question to give for my country..........WHAT WAS THAT! I respect my shirt too much to waste it on an extremely overrated gesture with no redeeming value whatsoever! In what context was that supposed to be funny? Oh I get it,it wasn't! Cool,I'm down with you now. I'm even going to go a little further back,JIGGY with it! Carry on Arianna! Hey? What WAS that?

I wasn't too happy with The Suburbs, but I absolutely love Funeral and Neon Bible.

It grows on you. Anyone who hasn't seen them live, doesn't know they're the hardest working band in the land -- except for Bruce. Seeing them do Rebellion (Lies) is truly a blissful experience.

Saw Arcade Fire when they were in Philly this summer. Didn't go for them because I wasn't thrilled with what I'd heard on the radio. I went for Spoon, which was the opening act. But Arcade Fire blew me away! They were fantastic live. I love it when I have low expectations and end up pleasantly surprised. They're one of those bands whose studio albums can't hold a candle to their live shows. By the way, Spoon was underwhelming live, and SNL hasn't been funny for years, except during the Presidential election. Just an opinion. ;) Carry on...

I'd never seen nor heard this band before, and hope never to again. They were utterly awful, just preening and primping and completely image-conscious. Their music was as bland as could be -- nothing melodic or interesting. Yecch.

The fact that you've never heard of them says it all about your curiosity about what's out there. That's ok, there's more for the rest of us to enjoy.

Not really. I'm not 12 years old, like yourself. Been around, and I know more about more kinds of music than you could dream of. But hey, no skin off my back if you're the local chapter president of the Justin Bieber fan club!

If you don't know what they're about, why are you criticizing so much?

Arcade Fire actually are terrible. They spend 97% of their time trying to look arty and cool. 3% on music. The lead singer can't sing at all, she just poses. They're ridiculous at best.

I think Arcade Fire's a pretty cool guy. eh writes some neat songs and doesn't afraid of anything.
12:44 PM on 11/15/2010
Win is the singer,Regine only sings a few songs. Sounds like you've never listened to their first album "Funeral" or "Neon Bible" one of the best Bush era, 9/11 influenced albums, just some amazing stuff on that one.

I have heard funeral, they a crappy art pop, then and now. Posers. Doesn't matter to me how poignant the message is, the music blows
04:09 AM on 11/15/2010
Arcade Fire is not that good, they cover up their musical deficiencies with flashy clothing.
