Election Poll

Politics Daily:

Americans overwhelmingly say that the midterm election results that gave Republicans control of the House represented a rejection of the Democrats and not a mandate for the GOP, according to a CNN/Opinion Research poll conducted Nov. 11-14. (Story; Poll data).

Seventy percent of those surveyed said the results were a rejection of Democratic rule in the House while 17 percent called it a mandate for Republicans. Eight percent answered "neither" and 5 percent had no opinion.

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhh, Obama didn't fix the deficit, repair the economy, end DADT, or single-handedly disarm al Qaeda, therefor he's a fraud." Is that about the size of it? You know there's a lot to be said for loyalty. But that aside, even Clinton - who did manage to end his second term with a budget surplus, peace, and record-low unemployment and record-low welfare roles - didn't accomplish many of his victories until his second term in office. But in this "instant gratification" society, Obama's a failure because you all didn't get a pony or something. Give the man a break, recognize the good things he has done, and remember which party caused this train wreck in the first place. But since you impatient babies couldn't wait, and since you've got zero short-term memory (as in, remembering who caused all this mess int he first place), you voted the lunatics in to run the asylum. And you deserve every ounce of misery you get as a result.

Anthological studies have concluded that primitive societies were even more violent than civilized ones, primitive life is pretty miserable in general, with no protection against drought or famine, no medicine so even the simplest diseases can be deadly, and no equality for women with zero defense against pregnancy, or oppression. In our culture the military is always evil, housewives are always desperate, corporations are always corrupt, and poverty is always the fault of wealthy people's greed. Can you spot the difference whereas in Haiti are old pal the sacred earth slaughtered innocent people in the 1,000's and our military turned out in a massive rescue effort? Right, in civilization democracy, capitalism, and technology is what that give us greater health, equality, and happiness. If you can't spot the difference then you are probably a liberal...

In your opinion do you think that the financial fiasco was because of people or corporations? Is the cost of health care due to people or corporations. Did the corporations or labor unions change the child labor laws, 40 hr. work, weekend off, safety laws etc etc. In fact where was the original idea of HMO or managed care started by organized labor or Corporations? Did corporations create Social Security safety net. Which Anthological studies are you quoting from? Are the jobs being outsourced by corporations or people. It is an undisputable fact that when the wealth of this nation is concentrated in a tiny portion of the population then it means there is less to go around, these wealthy business men are owners of corporations or working for Walmart. We didn't advance because business brought us here. Businesses look for stable societies and governments to plant their seeds into.

It's funny to me that liberals on this site, who don't listen to FOX, say things like the word "mandate" is repeated constantly on Fox News. No it's not. I watch FOX and never hear it. Instead what I hear is that the election shows the dissatisfaction with the direction the country is going and that the voters want both parties to go back to the basic principles of fiscal responsibility, smaller government and more adherence to the Constitution. I also hear that if the Republicans don't stop acting like Democrats with their increasing the size of government and reckless spending, they will be thrown out in 2012.

If you read the actual poll that the article quotes from, it basically says that this was a vote against the direction the Democrats are taking this country. If there is a "mandate" for the Republicans, it's for them not to allow this to continue.

The classic example is the Clinton balanced budget that liberals are fond of referring to. It was the Republicans, after another historic midterm election that brought President Clinton against his will to a balanced budget as was mandated by the people who put the Republicans in office.

With a little luck Republicans, wallowing in thier victory, will remind Americans just how much they dislike the party and it's policies. Rest assured they'll do as much damage as possible in the mean time.

It isn't about whether you "like" a policy or not. It's about jobs. Democrats create them Republicans don't.

True, but meaningless. Truthiness counts. No matter what the polls say the Rethugs will continue to tout the fact that the election represented a mandate to apply their phlosophy of governance, The real villagers do not have to be convinced. The virtually convinced villagers will be won over through repetiiton of the message, for which there will be very little MSM contradiction. As we continue our march towards corporate totalitarianism.

"Truthiness counts". Yes, but whose gut feeling counts? It was the gut feeling of the voters that the Democrats were going in the wrong direction with the country, so they sent a huge signal to STOP. It is not corporate totalitarianism we are trying to be lead to, it's government totalitarianism.

My representative was a decent woman in every respect. Before the election I heard every possible lie told that anyone might believe. Because people know their senators better than their representatives senators are less vulnerable to negative ads. To me, this is a sort of violence against democratic leadership and the American people. This wouldn't happen in a Muslim democracy.

The FED is responsible for screwing up the economy when Bush was president. Was the FED also responsible for screwing up the economy when Clinton was president?

Get it? It ain't the FED this is just more right wing nonsense so that The Bush Teabag Party doesn't have to take responsibility for screwing up the economy. Just a few short 10 years ago these right wing no-nothings insisted that the FED was responsible saving the economy so they would not have to give credit to Clinton.

Pay attention the policies of the Bush Teabag party ARE DESIGNED to reduce job creation while lining the pockets of the rich. And these policies work.

This past election was most certainly not a "mandate" it was a collective temper tantrum. When you look at polling, it wasn't actually even a repudiation of democratic ideology or policy. It's just the impatient, spoiled and juvenile reaction to the lack of immediate fixes.

Let's just see how long it takes for voters remorse to set in.

No it was not a GOP mandate. It was a refutation of the socialist progressive movement. The GOP only benefited since there is not another viable third party.

Of course, but do you think the GOP will listen? I think not....they will forge ahead with their agenda and then in 2 years, the parties will flip-flop again. A major poll before the election indiciated the American People reviled Republicans more than Democrats. There needs to be a viable third centrist party.....the problem is third parties tend to move to the extreme right, or left.

They're not listening now, nor have they been. The republican legislators and gop/fox pac are pushing the meme that it's the deficit that's motivating people - but polling shows that the deficit is actually their 5th concern, rated well below jobs and the economy.
