Cat vs. Alligator: Pet Protects People From Swamp Predator (VIDEO)

Cat vs. Alligator: Who would you put your money on?

In this video taken by a Canadian who was visiting a Louisiana alligator tourist destination in the Bayou, a small house cat decides to take on an alligator.

Here's some back up information so you can suss out the odds:

Large alligators subsist on birds and small mammals like raccoons. They are shy and will normally retreat into the water if approached by a human, unless cornered. South Carolina Parks recommends keeping pets, especially dogs, away from water in alligators' habitats, as they are known to attack and kill such companions.

So what do you think? Who will win this epic battle?

(Don't worry, the video is free of gore!)

Who owns this cat? It's a bit irresponsible to allow your pet or to film someone's pet squaring off with an animal who "subsist on birds and small mammals like raccoons" and cats!!!

Forget about the cat, what's with the guy in the background tying up this boat? The second alligator is like two feet away, mouth open, could easily strike this guy's leg... and he doesn't seem to mind?!

One audacious cat! Plus some fairly wimpy alligators.
I used to have a cat that terrorized all the dogs in the neighborhood, It was an 18 pound Seal Point Siamese and very territorial. Plus it was just mean (He liked me, I fed him) I saw him ride a german sheperd like a pony once, claws dug in and the dog kyieyieing all the way. I saw this cat of mine catch a squirrel, bite the end if its tail off and let it go, humiliated...Whata cat that was, could speak 6 english words and was always entertaining.

Never underestimate domestic house cats. I have one that is the "top dog" among four German Shepherds.

Just like a Palin supporter, that cat is brave but doesn't really understand what it is getting into.

Even for the sake of the alligator, I'd drive them from being near, just as the cat is trying to do. You may notice that the cat tended to 'throw off' some of the 'petting'. The people need to do so likewise. Gators have a brain about as big as a cigar. So one can be rather sure of what is mainly inside that allows them to survive.

My guess was they were feeding the gators,Gators ended up with full belly's and just wanted to stick around. I'm sure they were not afraid of the widdle kitty cat.

democat vs reptilecan.
Amazing what can happen if you actually stand your ground.

And its funny that the people below comenting that have never seen anything but a mouse outside of a zoo are giving advice to people who have lived WITH these animals for generations. Funny your scared of a smaller aligatior but a few weeks ago a lady gets trampled by a 2200 pound buffalo while she tries to follow and video tape it at yellow stone. to funny. deer, mountain lions, bears, sharks and rattle snakes are fast aligators are slow and timid when in the open out of their element...water. If you didnt notice a 5 pound cat just got it to back down. Granny with a shovel or rack can do the same thing. Aligators dont like to fight they like to surprise the prey.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, it is the human beings who are equipped with the brains of concrete.
